Rebel Pride Still Burns Bright
While it was heartbreak for Cork in last weekend’s All-Ireland Hurling Final defeat to Tipperary, we reflect with immense pride on what has been a thrilling season for the Rebels. From a brilliant Allianz League triumph over the premier county in Páirc Uí Chaoimh to that unforgettable Munster Final win on penalties over Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds — days like those will live long in the memory of every Cork supporter, young and old!
Of course, we had all dreamed of seeing the Liam MacCarthy Cup return to Leeside, but as we know all too well, sport can be very cruel. However, the one bright side about sport is there is always next year and there’s no doubt the Cork hurlers will be back even better and stronger next season! Despite the huge disappointment last weekend, this team gave us countless moments of joy, and none of it would have been possible without the hard work behind the scenes from the players and management.
We in Aghada are especially proud of our own Fergal Condon, who played a key role as selector with the Cork senior team yet again this year. His dedication to the Rebel cause was inspiring, and we are now very lucky to welcome back that same passion, experience and expertise as he turns his focus to guiding our Intermediate A hurlers in their upcoming championship campaign. Well done Rasper!

Our Junior A Footballers were the first Aghada team in championship action last week — and they kicked things off in style with a brilliant win over Dungourney on the pristine surface of Caherlag.
Aghada got off to the perfect start, storming into a six-point lead within the opening 15 minutes. Early scores came from Conal Rooney, Seán Morrissey (2), Eoin Motherway, and Conor O'Driscoll (2). Dungourney hit back with a pointed free, capitalising on a technical infringement when we failed to keep three players in the forward half. However, Cian Hegarty responded swiftly with a well-taken free of his own.
Dungourney began to find their rhythm approaching halftime, reeling off six unanswered points to level the match at the break and leave our lads wondering how the momentum had swung so quickly.
Things went from bad to worse shortly after the restart, with Dungourney rattling in their second ‘2-pointer’ of the evening to put us behind for the first time. But to the lads’ credit, they responded in fine fashion. A flowing team move was finished with a fine point by Max Ahern, before the game's turning point arrived.
Cian Hegarty burst through on goal and unleashed a thunderous shot that was brilliantly saved — but when the rebound fell back to him, he made no mistake the second time, firing it to the net. Hego followed up with two pointed frees, pushing Aghada four points clear with 20 minutes to play.
From there, the team showed composure and grit. Defensively, Conor Geary, Tomás Condon, and Jordan Tynan were outstanding in repelling Dungourney’s advances. Further scores from Scott Whyte, Conor O'Driscoll, Max Ahern, Seán Morrissey, and a final 2-pointer from Hegarty sealed a five-point win for Aghada.
Well done to Manager John O’Connor, his management team, and the entire panel on a great start to the campaign.

Irving Oil Day:
Thank you to the Irving Oil employees who generously gave their time to assist with cleaning our club grounds in Rostellan. It was a truly enjoyable day with the sun shining and numerous tasks being accomplished, including grass cutting, weeding, strimming, painting, and general tidying. This initiative has consistently provided a refreshing lift to our grounds and gave our grounds team — Pat, Charlie, and John T a much-needed break!
Thanks again to Irving and all the employees who supported the day.
Raise the ash song:
Lynda Morrissey, James Walsh, and a few more musicians & songwriters have come together to release a GAA community led song - uplifting the Ash and hurleymakers who are at the heart of Gaelic games. You can listen to the song at the below link:
That's it for today. Remember, juvenile championship fixtures for boys and girls will be posted on each section's individual social media account. Please come out to support our teams over the next few days.
