As the summer heats up (we will pretend!), so too does the action both on and off the field in Rostellan. We’ve had a busy few weeks with exciting developments across all levels of the club, from our adult league campaigns beginning to come to a close, to juvenile teams progress, player fundraisers, inter county success and healthy club events. Plenty of action to read about below…
Munster Hurling Glory for the Rebels – and Aghada!
Cork had a brilliant day at the Gaelic Grounds last Saturday evening, capturing the Munster Senior Hurling Championship title after a titanic battle with Limerick. A huge congratulations to Fergal Condon, who played a key role as selector with the team. Fergal’s involvement at the highest level is a source of immense pride for everyone in Aghada GAA. Hopefully, there are two more big days to come in Croke Park later this summer!
But Fergal isn’t the only Aghada native bringing home Munster honours — far from it!
A few weeks ago, Tom Walsh starred in goal for the Cork Minor Hurlers, helping them secure Munster glory with a superb win. Tom’s composure and skill between the sticks were key in a historic victory for the young Rebels.
Switching codes, we also had reason to celebrate in Ladies Football, where Maisie McRae lined out at centre-back for the Cork Minor Ladies Football team as they overcame Kerry in the Munster Final. Another fantastic achievement for a rising star in our club!
Well done to Fergal, Tom, and Maisie. Munster Champions!
Aghada Rebels’ Bounty Winners
Congratulations to our recent Rebels’ Bounty winners!
Kieran Walsh took home €250 in the March draw, while Ciara & Oisín Counihan also scooped €250 in the May draw.
Well done to all! Your wins are well deserved, and we’re delighted to see Aghada names among the prize winners.
A big thank you to everyone who purchased a Rebels’ Bounty ticket and supported our club, your support is greatly appreciated
The June draw is just around the corner… maybe you will be the next Aghada winner!

Every ticket bought is a direct investment in the future of our players and our club — and, of course, you could be in with a chance to win big!
Next week's jackpot is a huge €7,250.

Thank you for your continued support of the lotto. It is also important to recognise our club lotto committee who do great work every week to run the lotto. Special mention here goes to Jimmy O’Leary who ensures the lotto draw runs smoothly every Thursday night. Thanks to all involved.
Adult Teams League Round-Up
As we move into the heart of summer, our four adult codes - Hurling, Football, Ladies Football, and Camogie - are wrapping up their respective league campaigns.
Premier Junior Camogie
Our Camogie team have had a solid league campaign, successfully maintaining their status in the Premier Junior league. The team faced tough opposition along the way in Tracton, Bishopstown, Milford and Castlelyons. A win against Milford along with a draw against Castleyons being the highlights of the campaign. A steady and consistent effort from the team with good progress made on the pitch in preparation for championship later in the summer — well done to all involved!
Intermediate A Hurlers
Our Intermediate A hurlers have put in a strong showing in the RedFM Division 6 League, registering wins over Na Piarsaigh, Sarsfields, Ballygiblin, and Kinsale, with Argideen Rangers conceding a fixture which was due to be played this weekend.
With one game left to play against Barryroe, we sit on 10 points, but promotion may still be just out of reach unless other results go our way. Regardless, it has been a positive campaign with many young players gaining valuable experience and game time. Well done lads!

Premier Intermediate Footballers
Our Premier Intermediate footballers faced a tough campaign in Division 3 of the McCarthy Insurance Group league, up against several senior sides.
Despite early challenges, there are clear signs of growth and development, especially with young players stepping up. While relegation to Division 4 for 2026 is confirmed, there's optimism for a bounce-back campaign in the near future with the championship season very much on the horizon for all concerned.

Junior A Footballers
Our Junior A footballers have completed their East Cork Amarenco Division 2 campaign, retaining their league status for 2026.
It was a competitive league, with many first teams facing our second team, but our lads showed resilience throughout. A fantastic final-round win over Bride Rovers last week in poor weather sealed our place in the division for next year. Well done lads.

Junior C Footballers
Our Junior C footballers gave a good account of themselves in the East Cork Amarenco Division 3 league, performing well across all six fixtures.
A final-round victory over Glenville capped off their campaign nicely. Huge credit to Richie Condon and his selectors for ensuring we fielded a third football team this year despite tight numbers.

Ladies Football
Our Senior Ladies Footballers have had a solid campaign so far and have gone unbeaten in Cork Credit Union’s Division 1 league with impressive wins over St. Vals, O'Donovan Rossa, Mourneabbey, Éire Óg, and Glanmire.
They topped the league table and will enjoy a home semi-final vs Naomh Ában on June 29th.

Even more impressively, Aghada fielded three adult Ladies Football teams this year — Senior, Junior A, and Junior C — a remarkable sign of the growth and strength of Ladies Football in our club. A proud moment for everyone involved!
Upcoming Championship Campaigns
With league action winding down, our adult teams are now shifting focus to their championship campaigns. Many fixtures have already been announced, while a few are still to be confirmed over the coming weeks.
Once we have the full list, we’ll be sending out a dedicated email to all club members with dates, venues, and times for all adult championship games. Keep an eye on your inbox over the next 2–3 weeks!
We’ll be calling on club supporters to get behind all our teams as your voice on the sideline really does make a massive difference!
Inter-County Fixtures – CLG Áth Fhada representing the Rebels!
As the Munster Championships draw to a close, attention now turns to the All-Ireland series, with a number of key fixtures on the horizon and strong Aghada representation across multiple teams and codes. Here's what’s coming up:
- Cork Ladies Footballers begin their All-Ireland campaign this weekend with a Round 1 clash against Kerry in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh at 2:30pm.
Best of luck to Sarah Leahy (Captain), Hannah Looney, Abigail Ring, and Aoife Healy. - On Sunday, the Cork Minor Hurlers take on Clare in the All-Ireland Semi-Final at 1pm in FBD Semple Stadium.
Wishing the best to Tom Walsh, Trevor O’Keeffe (Coach), and Kevin Foley (Backroom Team). - The Cork Senior Camogie team continue their All-Ireland quest on June 21st against Clare (time and venue TBC).
Good luck to Hannah Looney, Aoife Healy, Amy O’Connor, and Kyle O’Shea (S&C). - The Cork Minor Ladies Footballers face Cavan in their All-Ireland Semi-Final on July 10th.
Wishing Maisie McRae the very best in another crucial championship fixture. - Looking ahead, the Cork Senior Hurlers will line out in the All-Ireland Semi-Final on July 5th in Croke Park, where they’ll face Tipperary, Galway, or Laois.
Best of luck once again to Fergal Condon as Cork aim for a place in the All-Ireland Final for a second year in a row, this time as Munster Champions!

Darkness Into Light 2025
A huge well done to our Aghada GAA Healthy Club Committee, who once again organised a heartfelt Darkness Into Light walk this year in support of Pieta House.
On May 10th, our community came together to walk from darkness into light, showing solidarity and support for mental health awareness.
Thanks to the generosity of all who took part and donated. An impressive €585 was raised for Pieta House.
Well done to everyone involved, a powerful and meaningful event once again this year.
Killarney 7s – Aghada Ladies Shine on and off the Pitch
Over the June Bank Holiday weekend, our Senior Ladies Footballers made their annual trip to Killarney to compete in the ever-popular Killarney 7s tournament, hosted by Spa GAA Club.
This event is always a highlight of the summer for our ladies footballers, offering great football and fantastic craic across both Saturday and Sunday, with live music, a vibrant atmosphere, and serious competition.
Our Aghada girls flew the flag with pride, winning all three group games on the Saturday in style against:
- Old Castle (Meath)
- St. Kevins (Louth)
- Castleknock (Dublin)
On Sunday, they faced Fossa (Kerry) in the Last 16 and came out on top, setting up a tantalising quarter-final clash with reigning All-Ireland Champions Kilmacud Crokes (Dublin).
In a thrilling match, Aghada led by 2 points with just 30 seconds to play, before a late, deflected, and scrappy goal saw Kilmacud snatch a heart-breaking one-point win. A tough way to exit, but a great effort from our girls!
While the result was cruel, the team can be immensely proud of their efforts throughout the competition. They played some fantastic football and represented the club brilliantly — both on and off the pitch.
The focus now turns to their league semi-final in late June and their championship campaign in late August.
Adult Player Fundraisers
Over the past month, our adult players have been busy organising fundraisers to support their teams.
On May 22nd, our Senior Ladies Footballers hosted a fantastic Table Quiz in Rosie’s Bar & Restaurant. The venue was packed with supporters, and the girls had put together a brilliant set of questions that kept everyone thinking and laughing throughout the night.
A huge well done to all the players involved in organising the event. It is great to see our adult players take such leadership and is the ultimate sign of teamwork in action!
Our male players launched a Munster Hurling Final Predictor Quiz, which saw great engagement online. Participants answered a series of questions for the chance to win a cash prize ahead of the big Cork vs Limerick clash.
Well done to Helen Walsh for driving this initiative and to all who took part.
A sincere thank you to everyone who supported both events — your generosity is appreciated by all our players.
Schools Coaching
A big well done to Pat O’Connell, Paula Dunne, our dedicated Schools Coaching Coordinators, who have once again done a superb job bringing Gaelic Games to the playgrounds of Aghada, Saleen, and Whitegate national schools. This year we had four 6 weeks schools coaching programmes with 2 monster blitzes at the end of the school year. Over 200 children attended on both days with 30 TY students coaching throughout the year. Thanks to GDC Ciaran O'Brien for his assistance with this schools coaching programme throughout the year.
Thanks to Pat, Paula and our transition year students work, huge numbers of children across the parish have had the chance to enjoy and learn our games in a fun and encouraging environment.
A special mention to the Transition Year students who stepped up as enthusiastic and capable coaches — your energy and connection with the younger kids made a real impact. Their dedication to our schools coaching was really apprecaited by Pat & Paula.
A huge thank you to all the teachers & principals in each school for your continued support of the programme. It's this strong club-school link that helps secure a bright future for Aghada GAA! Pat O'Connell also sent in a short note as the schools coaching comes to an end for another year:
''Thank you to all our schools coaching TY students for their incredible work with the children in our local national schools. Thank you to all teachers, principals and parents for their support. Thanks also to John Murphy, Anthony Connolly & the club executive for their help and support with ensuring the programme was a success again this year. A special thank you to Kim Hegarty who contributed greatly to our 2 end of year monster blitzes. We are looking forward to next year already!''
