U21 FOOTBALL 11

U 21 FC Manager Aidan Kelleher sel John O'Sullivan, Jim Motherway

Tue 29th Mar U21 A F C Aghada 1-9 Midleton 1-11

Aghada bowed out of the u21 A football championship at the first attempt, to a decent Midleton team. Aghada got a great start when Cian Fleming goaled after the Midleton goalie made a mistake. The lead was short lived as from the kick out the home side equalized. For the next ten minutes Midleton held the upper hand in a fast, free flowing game and as the game entered the second quarter the town added three points on the trot. The second quarter was all Aghada’s as centre back Eoin Healy controlled the game ablely assisted by his wing backs Dave Rice and James Daly. Aghada hit five points in a row, two frees from Fleming one free from Russell and a point each from play by Matt O’Connor and the ever dangerous Jose O’Shea. Midleton then missed an easy free on the short whistle to see Aghada lead by 1-5 to 1-3.
Aghada turned with the wind to their backs but it was Midleton who applied the pressure and by the 35m the game was level. The seasiders replied with two points one from Ronan Kennedy and a free from Fleming. Aghada pressed hard but the last pass seemed to go astray as the Midleton backline cleared ball after ball. Midleton also got a foothold at midfield and every time they attacted it seemed they got a score. Midleton went two points ahead but a great point from Dave Rice pulled it back. It was short lived as Midleton went two ahead again as time started to run out. Aghada now applied pressure with Fleming pointing a free to make it just one between the sides again. Just after this Aghada got a great chance when Fleming sent in a great ball but the goalie was equal to the task as the ball just got away from Raymond Savage. Aghada made one last effort to no avail and Midleton broke up the field and won a free to win by two points
