Eastern Region Minor Champions 2011

Wed 31st Aug Minor Hurling C 12 a side

Championship final Aghada 2-16 Ballygarvan 3-8

Aghada lifted the 1st Eastern region Minor C hurling 12 a side championship in some style in Carrigtwohill last night (Wed 31st Aug.

Aghada opened well with a lovely point from Ryan O’Keeffe in the first minute of play. Ballygarvan equalised on the 4th minute, but straight away Aghada responded with a point from man of the match William Leahy. It was tit for tat for the next few minutes with Michael McCarthy and Leahy pointing the in a one minute spell the Ballygarvan men rocked Aghada with two goals. But how Aghada responded the selectors moved Tim Hartnett back as a sweeper and how it worked the South east men had only one more score for the half and that was on the 15th m and a point.

This meant the forwards had to work harder and so they did William followed with a point and on the 19th minute he bellowed the Ballygarvan net. Aghada chased everything down with the result they went in level at the brake 1-9 to 2-3 after William landed three points and Ryan O’Keeffe one.

At half time Aghada introduced Cork U15 Star Jake O’Donoghue and he shook things up. William and Ryan exchanged points as the half opened then Jake found the net on the 36th minute to hit the front. Minutes later Jake posted a point to neutralise a Ballygarvan one. As we entered the last quarter it was back to a two point lead but Ryan and William hit two points to go four clear. After that Aghada answered any score that the South east men could muster. Both teams now go on to a county.
