MINOR FOOTBALL 11

Sun 16th Oct Minor Football League Semi-final - Aghada 2-4 Setantas 0-11

Wed 6th July Minor B Football championship Aghada 1-8 Douglas 3-15

Aghada travelled to play Douglas’s third string last night and found the going tough.
Aghada opened well enough but failed to put away gilt edged chances and paid the price later as the City boys got the goals that made the difference. Aghada trailed at the short whistle by 2-8 to 0-6 playing with the wind.
The lads never gave up and put it up to the city boys in the second half but the last pass almost aways went astray. Raymond Savage got a goal back but it was to little to late. Tim Hartnett, James O’Leary, Ryan O’Keeffe showed a bit of class

Sat 19th Mar M F L Aghada 2-9 Douglas 2-2

Our minors continued their winning ways last Sat on a wet and windy Rostellan field.
Aghada were completely on top for most of the game but could not finish off Douglas’s third string. Aghada moved the ball well and looked very good at times but poor shooting left them down. Indeed after playing with the elements the home side only lead by 0-4 to a single point at the short whistle. This is despite been on top all lines. Right down the middle Aghada were strong Tim Hartnett at centre back, the centre field pairing of Dave Rice and William Leahy and Raymond Savage showed well.
Aghada now facing the wind knocked over three points fairly quickly after the resumption, coming from the boot of Ryan O’Keeffe, Raymond Savage, and Davie Rice. Douglas then got a rather handy goal when we should have cleared our lines. They followed this with a point and the game was back in the melting pot. But how Aghada responded as Scott Coyle Garde rattled the net to give Aghada a bit of a breather. Back came the City boys and a similar goal was scored to again narrow the gap. Again Aghada responded with a goal from Raymond Savage, points followed and the home side recorded their 3rd win in a row.

The same evening our Minors made the long journey to Carrignavar and came away with their first win of the campaign by the narrowest of margins. This was a very physical match resulting in two players from either side sent off after receiving two yellow cards each. William Leahy was in top form rattling off 1-3.

Sun 27th Feb Minor Football Aghada 3-2 Western Gaels 1-13

Aghada played their first match under the new Eastern Board last Sun 27th Feb at Rostellan.
It was not a great start as Western Gaels the Kilmichael / Iveleary combination got the better of our Minors.
The Western Gaels had it all their own way for a lot of the game going 1-9 up before Aghada scored but fair play to our lads as they fought all the way to the end and made a great come back against the wind, showing mighty character, scoring 3-2 to finish on a high note but the Western boys had too much of a lead to pull back. Still Aghada were short a good few. we travel to Carrignavar for the next game at the weekend
