While at first glance this was a bad beating for Aghada, it was far from that if you take the positives out of the game. It was played at a fast pace with both teams first touch a class act, but the goals counted in the end. Paudie Wall making a return after his trip to Auss, had an outstanding game at centre back his bother Shane came on at half time and showed no ill effects after his long illness. Alan Creedon also made a welcome return. It was also a night for young fellows. James O’Leary showed some class at corner forward while Fergal Culligan looked the part at full. Add in displays from Ronan Kennedy who plucked the ball out of the air with ease. Ryan O’Keeffe and Tim Hartnett also caught the eye, (remember most of them played a full game yesterday). Yes we had weaknesses but over all we are going in the right direction.

Wed 11th May JHL Div 2 Aghada 1-14 Ballinacurra 1-9

Aghada won their opening game in the Junior 2 hurling league when they defeated Ballinacurra handy enough in the finish

With ace marksman Tony Wall on top form (scoring 6 frees and four form play) Aghada always had the upper hand but half way through the second period the Village made a spirited come back led by that evergreen Fanta. Aghada were 1-10 to 7 points up at that stage when Fanta struck first for a point and then he converted a semi penalty at the second attempt he followed this up with mighty point from long range and the seasiders looked in trouble but Aghada responded well, with Wall adding four minors, two from play.

Aghada opened strongly with Wall operarating on the forty and causing all sorts of problems for the home side. As we left the opening quarter Aghada led by 1-7 to a single Fanta point which was scored on the 3rd minute. As well as Wall, we had points from Ger Melvin (2) and Richie Condon, with Brian Wall getting the goal.

But suddenly the Village fought back scoring four points in as many minutes and it fell to Wall again to stem the tide from a placed ball on the 22nd m.

Over all a lot of rust but a good game played with a bit of a bite. Stephen Cashman, Liam Morressy and Conor Rice covered ground and played well. Ryan O’Keeffe came on at half time and straight away he showed his potential with a classy point.
