Aghada played their last game of the year against a strong Castlelyons side. Aghada held their own playing with the wind in the opening half. By the seventh minute we were three points to the good from the boots of Osín Lynch, and Two great scores from Raymond Savage. Aghada were in control at this stage but failed to convert their changes. Bt the 14th m the home side were 4 points to 2 up when Conor Rice converted. The next two scores came from Castlelyons as we approached the short whistle. Tony Wall popped over two points on the trot to turn into a gale force wind ahead.

Castlelyons took the lead after landing three points within as many minutes of the resumption. Aghada now found the going hard as the visitors used the elements to their advantage. Still Aghada fought all the way but could only convert one point and that came from the book of Conor Rice.

Fri 21st Oct J B F C Q Final Aghada 1-19 Carrigtwohill 2-2

Don’t let the score put you off Aghada had to fight tooth and nail to win this one.
Aghada opened the scoring against a strong wind when Aidan Cotter pointed.
Carrigs reactions were swift two goals within as many minutes rocked Aghada to the core. Ronan Kennedy steadied the ship with a point from a placed ball on the 10th minute as Aghada struggled to get into the game. The next fifteen minutes yielded only one score and that was from Carrig.

Slowly Aghada started to build and getting a grip in the centre of the park the scores started to flow. In the space of eight minutes we were level. Conor Rice, Ronan Kennedy, Osín Lynch and Paudie Wall (0-2) hit points to level the score at half time 2-1 to 0-7.

Aghada now turning with the wind turned on the pressure and eight minutes into the half won a penalty which Aidan Cotter dispatched with aplomb and took the lead from here in.
Carrig had a man sent off of a second yellow as the home side over ran them scoring 12 points to there only point of the half which came at the death.

Sun 17th April J A F C 2nd Rd Aghada 1-11 Bride Rovers 2-14 aet

Aghada bowed out of this years Junior A Football championship the hard way. A great comeback in the dying minutes of the second half saw Aghada draw level with the Rovers when Ger Melvin pointed a placed ball on the 67th minute to force extra time.
It was a game of many half’s as each side had turns dominating the game. Aghada opened the scoring with a Matt O’Connor point on the fourth minute.
Aghada should have had more scores on the board but poor passing, poor decision making cost the seasiders. It took Bride Rovers 8 minutes before they scored but scored three more minors in as many minutes as they showed Aghada a clean pair of heels. By the 24th minute they were 6 points to one up and coasting. They good work by Aidan Kelleher and Aidan O’Connell led to a Matt O’Connor point. The hard working centre forward Ger Melvin then pointed to see Aghada only three points behind at the short whistle.
The best thing about the 1st half was the display of our youngsters especially Michael Gilroy and Dave Rice who worked hard and showed they were well able for this level.

On resumption Aghada started to control midfield and got a foothold in the bride half, but only for the rovers to score 1st and extend the lead. Colm Power pulled one back on the 33rd minute. The Rovers landed another before John Connelly hit a mighty 45 to make it a three point game again.
The next 15 minutes was stale mate while Aghada had most of the play as our backline cleaned up led by Stephen Cashman who had an outstanding game. But Aghada were unable to land the killer punch, failing to convert the play to into scores. With 6 minutes left on the clock the Rovers scored again to go four clear and all of a sudden Aghada upped their game a point from Colm Power was quickly followed by a great goal from sub William Leahy as he blasted to the net to level the game with two minutes left on the clock. Aghada went for the kill but the ball was cleared and a soft free set the Rovers ahead again two minutes into injury time back our lads came and that a fore mentioned leveller met we had extra time.
This was a great come back having lost Brendan Flaherty and Matt O’Connor to injury half way through the half.

Aghada started the extra time like the finished and for the 1st time since the opening minutes lead when William Leahy and Tony Wall landed a point each. But it was short lived as the Rovers hit back with a vengeance scoring 1-2 before the 10 minute half was up.

Aghada now had their backs to the wall and while pushing hard for a goal the Rovers counter attacked and goaled. Aghada never gave up with points form Matt who came on again and Michael Gilroy toped for a fine personal display with a nicely taken point.

Tue 12th April J F L Div 2 Aghada 1-12 Cobh 0-8

On a bitter cold night Aghada were much to strong for Cobh in this Div 2 game.
Cobh playing with the strong wind opened the scoring going two points clear before Ton Wall replied for the home side from a placed ball. Minutes later Wall levelled the game with a lovely point from play. Cobh hit back with two unanswered points just before the turning point of the game came. Cobh opened the Aghada defence and had a goal at their mercy but hit the side netting. From the kick out Matt O’Connor got the last touch to a ball that should have been cleared but ended up in the Cobh net for Aghada to lead for the 1st time.
Cobh rallied to land two more points to leave the half time score 1-2 to 6 points.
From the restart the ever improving Brendan Flaherty levelled the game with a great point. With the afore mentioned Flaherty and Aidan O’Connell controlling midfield the Aghada forwards had loads of ball but were guilty of many wides. Yet Aghada scored some brilliant points coming from the boots of Wall, Dobbyn, O’Connor, and Flaherty. as we entered the last quarter the home side led by 1-8 to Cobs 6 points. Indeed Cobh was to only score two points against the wind.
This was a welcome win for Aghada with Flaherty, Wall, Ml Gilroy, and Tim Hartnett the pick of the bunch.

Sat 2nd April J A F C Aghada 2-4 Ballinacurra 4-9

Ballinacurra dominated most of this game except for the opening 15 minutes. Aghada won the toss and opted to play with the wind. John Connelly opened the scoring for the seasiders from a placed ball. from the kick out Cork Senior hurler James Nagle done likewise at the other end. A minute later Stephen O’Brien pointed to put the village ahead. The football was fast and furious at this stage with Aghada’s Midfield of John Connelly and Adian Kelleher on top. Ballinacurra’s Paul O’Keeffe and Matt O’Connor exchanged points. Aghada had plenty of the play but could not made headway against a teak tough Village full backline, but this was to falter a few minutes later when Connelly who had only one thing on his mind found the net after a brilliant movement.
No sooner was the green flag down but it was raised at the other end when Killian Harty got the first of his two goals to put the Village ahead again and as it turned out a lead they were never to lose. Aghada nearly had a second goal a few minutes later but the Village goalie Adrian O’Donovan made a mighty save.
Out the field James Nagle, Tom O’Leary and to a lesser extent John Mallon started to control the game and with the increase ball supply the Ballinacurra full line had Aghada in the horrors and sure enough the scores came a goal from O’Brien and a second Harty had Aghada reeling. Such was the dominance of the village Aghada could only muster one score for the second quarter and that came form the boot of Ger Melvin. At the call of half time the Village lead by 3-3 to 1-3.

Ballinacurra were now in the driving seat turning with the wind but it was Aghada who scored first, a free from O’Connor on the 34th minute. Little did we think that it would be the 59th minute before Aghada scored again and this was a goal again from the boot of Connelly who played his heart out for Aghada’s cause. In between Scott Richards and Tom O’Leary kicked two great points before disaster struck Aghada as the ball bounced of the chest of Sub young Michael Gilroy playing is first adult championship game for the Club for an own goal. Points followed from Nagle, Richards (2) and Mallon as the Village turned on the style while Aghada await the backdoor draw.

Fri 4th Feb J F L Div 2 Aghada1-11 Russell Rovers 0-4

Aghada opened their league campaign with a convincing win over Russell Rovers at a very windy Rostellan.
Aghada played into the elements in the opening half. Points from Finbarr Day, John O’Brien, and Martin Day sent Aghada in at the short whistle level at three points each. The writing was on the wall for the second half and so it was, as the home side turned on the pressure. Brendan Flaherty, Colm Power, and Adian O’Connell were to the fore as Aghada piled on the scores. The Rovers had no answer and could only add a single minor to their half time score , while Aghada managed 1- 8
