Aghada under 14 hurlers put in a fine performance in East Cork championship |
Wed 28th April U14 hurling league Aghada 5-10 Fr O Neills 2-7.
Sat 24th April U14 hurling league Aghada 7-9 Kiltha Óg 5-10.
| Bit rusty at the start but once they got in their stride the lads
really perform.Fr o Neills brought the game to us from the start.Their
fast play and passing took us all over the pitch. They were 1-3 up in
a few minutes anyone would think that this was going to be an onslaught.
Something dawned in our lads that they were in a game and started to
perform. Points from John Looney,Daniel Creedon,Stephen Murphy, Jake
o Donoghue and a superb goal by Jake with his new Liam Walsh just before
half time settled us for the second half with a score line of Aghada
1-5 Fr o Neills 1-3.Fergal gave his half time chat and the lads all
fired up for second half. But Fr o Neills got the next 2 points and brought
the game level. A positional change saw Mark Healy go centerback and
Aaron Stafford midfield. Aaron came into his own and drove the team
on. The badly missed Sean O Leary hit the Fr o Neills net twice. James
Cashman ,John Looney also found the net. This was a great second half
performance.Man of the match goes to Murfs Andrew and Stephen they both
were unreal covered every blade off grass. There is still a few places
up for grabs in this team so its back training sun morning 10am.

Sun 11th April U14 Feile Hurling
Aghada 2-11 Charleville 3-11
| This third round of Féile Iomáint brought a strong north
cork team to the shores of Rostellan on a sunny Sunday afternoon, April
11th.This match that was competitive and pulsating from start to finish
and brave Aghada under 14's bowed out of Féile, but if luck had
gone their way, they could have easily won it! Niall Barrett was the referee in charge and he brought experience and allowed the game to ebb & flow in the tradition that Féile should be played. At half time it was evens 1-7 a piece. The first half was getting to know each other. This Charleville side was stronger down the middle and it would take an almighty effort to overcome them. The second half saw the visitors go 5 points in front on the 20th minute. The defining moments was in the 21st and 22nd minute respectively, when two potential goal chances deprived Aghada to go in front. The first was a great catch by Jack Farmer just outside the square to lash the ball off the post and the second was a point-blank save by Charleville goalie after a rasper of a strike from John Looney, as a result, the Charleville goalie was injured and had to be replaced. In the 3rd minute of injury time Aghada had a 20 metre free to level it, but, it was not to be and this highly determined, highly skilled hurling team bowed out of Féile. The man of the match was again Aaron Stafford, he covered mid-field ,back line and his personal contribution of 1-3 as a centre half-back was commendable. This team in general has great players with good hurling skills and are a team of the future. Manager Fergal Condon brought in all the established Aghada hurling players to egg on the team and he will surely need them again before the year is out with this set of players. He now takes them to the East cork league, next Wed 14th against Carrigtwohill, at home. Team-Mathew Stafford, Shane Crowley, Shane Dorney, Mark Wall, Michael Leahy, Aaron Stafford(1-3),Andrew Murphy, Stephen Murphy, Mark Healy(0-1), Daniel Creedon, Jake O’Donoghue (0-2),John Looney (0-5),Jack Farmer, Cian Savage, Kevin O'Hanlon(1-0). Subs. James Cashman, Peter Cashman, Jordon Horgan, Aaron Butler, Paul Daly. |

Sars brought back Aghadas lead by 2 points with another well taken goal and well taken points. Aghadas back line was outstanding and showed great courage and team spirit.
