Wed 25th Aug J B H C Aghada 0-18 Erin's Own 3-12

Aghada were beaten in this match after a titanic battle, a game we so easily could of won. This game was a cracking match from start to finish, with Swannie and Babóg keeping things tight at the back and Vincent, Finbarr and Tony keeping the score board ticking over up front we only trailed by a goal at half time 1-8 to0-8.The second half was tit for tat, but we were unlucky that we didn’t avail of some decent goal scoring chances. We conceded two soft goals, and then with 5 minutes remaining Vincent received a straight red. This took away from the fine efforts this side made through out the hour, we could not get scores in the remaining minutes to force a replay. Once again Aghada were left rue what might of been, best for Aghada were Swannie, Conor, Anthony, Finbarr and Tony. Final score Aghada 0-18 Erins Own 3-11.

Aghada 3-15 Carrignavar 1-13

Aghada show serious form in rout of Carrignavar.

Having lost their last two meetings, Aghada finally defeated Carrignavar in the Junior B Championship. Like the other games this again was one to savour, plenty scores, no quarter given or taken and mighty hurling.
The real story of the game was Finbarr Day scoring 1-9 out of 2-12 at the short whistle. Within 2 minutes of the start he had 1-2 in the bag. By the ninth minute Finn added two long ranges frees. Carrig struggled to stay in touch as Aghada were rampant all over the field, Vincent Morressy added a goal and when Finbarr landed two more minors Aghada were 2-6 to 3 points to the good but fair play to Carrignavar they never gave up and as the 1st quarter finished the rattled the net to pull Aghada back. The Aghada half forward line caused all sorts of problems with Eoin Healy, Derick Bowler and Eoin Savage winning ball at will. At the other end Eoin Cotter, Liam Morressy and the evergreen Ronan Dwane commanded the half backline indeed Cotter was to score the last point of the half and it would have graced any arena. The score at the short whistle stood at 2-12 to 1-6.
On resumption Carrig lifted their game and came at Aghada, but with the Aghada fullback line in might form they were confined to minors. Day left the field of play 10 minutes into the half and suddenly the seasiders found it hard to score, they only added 1-3 to the score in the second half but it was more than enough to see off a gallant Carrignavar side that were unlucky to lose to Midleton in the final last year.

A great victory for Aghada in this 1st round match played in Lisgoold.
