Wed 28th July U14 A F C FINAL

Aghada 1-09 Killeagh/Itas 1-10.
Yes,even a swarm of bees got prime viewing for this match between the two dugouts, which required both teams to camp at the opposite side line while Mary Swane(referee) asked the Ballymacoda officials to cordon off the area. This did not takeaway from this gripping, tense final from start to finish, which ended with Killeagh edging out Aghada by one point to win the under 14 A grade Football East Cork final on Wednesday 28th July in Aghervine.
It must be noted that Aghada and Killeagh have battled it out from under 12 level and this was Killeagh's first major win in football with Aghada enjoying most of the success over the years.
Killeagh's intention was clear from the start with an Eoin Keniry point. However Aghada replied in the second minute with a Jordan Ryan point and as the Killeagh goalie saved a first attempt goal chance from John Looney,he could not save John's second attempt.Killeagh dominated the next 8 minutes which resulted in points from Danial Smiddy,Conor Cusack & Cian Breen to level it.Indeed it could have been more but for the a good save by Aghada goalie Michael Leahy. But in the 13th minute a Killeagh goal by Paudsie Welsh summoned Aghada to get their act together.A goal piersing run by Aaron Stafford resulted in him being grounded, just outside the large square, and a yellow card offense.Jordon pointed from the free and followed through with another point from play. But,it was Killeagh that finished the stronger with another Kiniry and Smiddy point to leave it 1-6 to Aghada's 1-3 at half-time.
By the third minute of the second half it was level again. An Andrew Murphy point, substitute Mark Wall and Brian Rice was fouled resulting in two more points from frees by Jordan & Aaron.Mark Wall & Jordon Ryan's solo runs resulted in a Sean O'Learys(moved to full forward) goal chance, which, nearly worked but for a brave save by the Killeagh goalie, just outside the small square to a resulting 45.
Killeagh replied with a Smiddy point with another point mid way through the half. For the next 10 minutes Killeagh held a two point advantage until Aaron's point with three minutes to go.During this time the return of Aghada's full back,Shane Dorney fortified the back line as did all the backs to stem the opposition attack.
Another Killeagh point followed by an Aaron and Stephen Murphy point to level it.On the stroke of full time another Keniry point. In additional time,Andrew Murphy seamed to be fouled twice in front of the Killeagh goal ,but, no mercy from Mary and when Aaron sliced an awekward free that was moved up to outside the 20....the final whistle went with a one point win to Killeagh.
The bees never swarmed, how could they? it was just a nail-biting game and they had Ard Comhairle seats! Above all nobody got stung as Killeagh go to Premier in the county and Aghada go A grade in the County Juvenile campaign in or around the second week of August and the best of luck to both teams.

Aghada under 14 footballers reach East Cork final.

Wed 21st July U14 A F C

Aghada 3-13 Carrigtwohill 1-9.

Carrigtwohill GAA pitch was the venue for the semi final of the under 14 Football A grade championship match on Wednesday 21st July .With a 7.30pm throw in by Ballymacoda's referee Mary Swane in windy and showery conditions which did not ensure summer championship football to be played at its best.
This was Aghada's first match in the championshio after Glanmire could not field a team the previous week and the manner in which Aghada completed the first half displayed a lack of championship skill with a allot of score opportunities missed with players taking the wrong options.
It was Carrigtwohill that opened the scoring with two points from Jamie McCarthy & Frank Kierans followed by another point in the 10th minute from McCarthy. Two more points from Shane Murphy and the Carrick boys were dominating. This was Aghada's wake-up call and the team eventually settled with a pointed free from Jordan Ryan.John Looney then pointed from a short 45 and followed with an excellent point from play in the 21st minute.A soaring run by Jordan Ryan resulted in a dipping goal over the Carrigtwohill goalie, this levelled it.Aghada kept up the pressure with a point from Aaron Stafford and Jordan. However the Carrig boys responded with two points of their own to leave a point between the teams at half time on a scoreline of 1-5 to 7 points in favor of Aghada.
Declan Devoy and Paul Kilbane brought the team in to the dressing rooms for the interval.Whatever was said Aghada came out with a different purpose in the second half and from the start imposed some kind of a control to the game. But converting this control to scores did not happen until midway into the second half and this was after Carrigtwohill scored a goal and a point in the 35th & 38th minute, respectively.Aghada dug deep and the spirit that is this team started to show.Points from Jordan and two consequent points from John Looney eventually levelled the game. Both teams exchanged points until Aaron,s 45 kick came off the cross bar into the hands of Sean O'Leary and he netted it.This was followed by another fine Looney point and a point from substitute Peter Cashman .Carrick responded and it took a save by Michael Leahy to deny them a goal and when Andrew Murphy sneaked behind the corner back to score another goal in the lat minute of play;it was only at this time you could say the match was won.
There was good performances from the full back-line of Mark Healy ,Shane Crowley and James Cashman which kept Aghada in the game for long periods supported by Mathew Stafford,Jake O Donaghue and Cormac Phelan. The missed opportunities must be noted by team management and especially the distribution of scoring options in not using other forward players and taking points rather than going for glory goals. This was a hit & miss performance and much better consistency is required before an East Cork football title is earned.
Aghada waits for the winners of Midleton and Killeagh in the final to be played next Wednesday 28th July, venue to be advised.

Wed 19th May U14 F L in Rostellan Aghada 5-10 Killeagh 3-10

Sat 24th April U14 Football league Aghada 7-9 Kiltha Óg 5-10.

Bit rusty at the start but once they got in their stride the lads really perform.Fr o Neills brought the game to us from the start.Their fast play and passing took us all over the pitch. They were 1-3 up in a few minutes anyone would think that this was going to be an onslaught. Something dawned in our lads that they were in a game and started to perform. Points from John Looney,Daniel Creedon,Stephen Murphy, Jake o Donoghue and a superb goal by Jake with his new Liam Walsh just before half time settled us for the second half with a score line of Aghada 1-5 Fr o Neills 1-3.Fergal gave his half time chat and the lads all fired up for second half. But Fr o Neills got the next 2 points and brought the game level. A positional change saw Mark Healy go centerback and Aaron Stafford midfield. Aaron came into his own and drove the team on. The badly missed Sean O Leary hit the Fr o Neills net twice. James Cashman ,John Looney also found the net. This was a great second half performance.Man of the match goes to Murfs Andrew and Stephen they both were unreal covered every blade off grass. There is still a few places up for grabs in this team so its back training sun morning 10am.
