| Aghada win three A football titles in a row. up to three years ago
Aghada had never won one now they have three and what a way to win one.
If there was a better match played this weekend I would have loved to see it. This game had everything passion, skill of the highest order, will to win and most of all two honest teams that gave everything in for the cause. The game opened slowly although Charlie Terry opened the scoring with a point after three minutes for the next ten both sets of backs were on top then Mathew Leahy had that all important goal to put the seasiders ahead by 1-1 to no score. Glanmire started to exert pressure and it started to pay off scoring 5 points on the trot from Shane Garvey (0-2) Killian O’Leary, Killian Moloney and Marcus and when ahead on the 28 minute Aghada looked in trouble but up stepped man of the match Aaron Berry with a long range free to level the game on the 29th m. two minutes later he converted a 45 for the lead again which they were never to lose. The state of play at the short whistle was Aghada 1-3 Glanmire 0-5. Aghada were out of the traps like a greyhound as within a minute of the restart Berry again converted a 45. a minute later he sent in an other long range free which Luke O’Connell plucked out of the sky and rattled the net for a great goal. The intensely of the game was by now sky high as both teams gave an exhibition of football rarely seen. End to end stuff both cul barra's were at their best especially Ciaran O’Shea in the Aghada goal. While Glanmire were by far the bigger team Aghada had the craft and also fought tooth and nail for every ball. Jordan Tynan, Charlie Terry and Jack Mc Donald added points to leave Aghada ahead by 2- 7 to 5 points as we entered the last quarter. With eight minutes left on the clock Glanmire stared to motor and when Shane O’Driscoll hit the Aghada net with a rasper it was game back on. Glanmire’s best forward Shane Garvey added another minor as did Sam Heffernan to leave just two between the sides two minutes into injury time. Aghada never panicked with Ed Leahy playing a captains part at full back. Team Ciaran O’Shea Darra Murphy, Edward Leahy(capt), Markus Leahy, Gavin Kelly, Aaron Berry (0-3 two 45’s), Kyle O’Shea Kaleen O’Donoghue, Jack McDonald (0-1) Jordan Tynan (0-1f), Charlie Terry (0-2), Steve Daly, James Gilroy, Luke O’Connell (1-0), Mathew Leahy (1-0) Sub used Mathew Kidney h/t for Daly. Other subs Conor O'Callaghan, Conor Moloney, Declan Foley, Kieran O'Reilly, Niall Hill, Ciaran Galligan, Cal Bawden, Jack Morrison, David O'Sullivan, Vincent Rohan, Ben Stafford, Rob Stafford, Daniel Horgan, Evan Hennessy, Conor Cotter, Mathew Kidney, Bevry Hoban, Jack Foley |
