On Sunday March 7th, Aghada Juniors played their first game of 2010 in Rostellan and got off to a flying start with a great win over Bishopstown. Training continuies every Monday and Thursday night in Rostellan for Juniors and every Monday night for underage teams. New Members welcome.

Best of luck to Cathal McAllister who has been handed the task of refereeing the All-Ireland Club Hurling Final between Portuma of Galway and Ballyhale Shamrocks of Kilkenny on St. Patricks Day in Croke Park. We wish him all the best on the big day.

Also last Sunday February 28th , our u-16 team had a good win over Bride Rovers.

Best wishes to Sandra McCarthy starting a new job in Limerick, and also to Caitriona Day, Laura Burchill, Hazel Flynn and Kerry O'Neill who are all out injured at the moment. Hope to have them all back fighting fit again soon!

Congratulations to Emma Farmer on making the Cork Minor Panel for 2010.

Aghada Juvenile and Ladies Football Social

On Friday 5th last, Aghada Juvenile GAA Club and Ladies Football held their annual social in Garryvoe Hotel. Presentations were made by our special guest Annie Walsh to our U-12 team who won both the East Cork ''A'' league and championship and our U-16 team who captured the East Cork ''B'' league. Individual awards were presented to our Cork players and also most improved in the various age groups. Hannah Looney and Roisin Phelan represented us on the Cork U-14 team and both Amanda Bennett and Cassie Tynan played for Cork in the Primary Schools game. Most improved players awards went to: Sinead O'Driscoll U-12, Emer Browne U-14 and Lisa Ring U-16. After the presentations, the floor was cleared for a disco that went on until midnight. A great night was had by all.

WINNERS LONG KICK 1/1/2010

Aghada Ladies Football Club held their first ever Long Kick on New Years Day.It proved to be a very successful day and there was a great turnout, with very few sore heads! A total of 22 teams took part, starting and ending from TK's restaurant, taking a route up the Refinery Hill and back down the Club Road. The winning team with 43 kicks was: Martin Looney(Cpt.), Roisin Culligan, John Looney and Arlene Tynan. They were presented with their trophies at the Schooner Bar by Julie. A special thanks to Tracy O'Neill and the fundraising committee for all their work in making this event such a huge success and to the Schooner Bar for very kindly sponsoring the event. Hopefully this year will be the start of an annual event in the Aghada GAA calender! Well done to everyone for keeping the balls between the ditches and away from the sea too!
