U10 Football 09

Sat 19th September U10 footballers enjoy their day-out

All Roads led to the high altitude venue of Mayfield for one of the Brian Lotty Under 10 Football Blitzes that were held across East Cork and Cork City, on All Ireland Weekend. We would like to thank Mayfield and Brian Lotty for organising a very enjoyable tournament.

Aghada took two teams of nine on the day and embarked from Rostellan Village for a feast of football.

From the off, Aghada displayed a great work rate and no little skill in their first games against the Carrigtwohill selections. Both teams showed off some great football. Stars for Aghada Whites in these games were David O Sullivan in goals, who pulled off a string of great saves to deny the Carrigtwohill forwards throughout the first game. Cal Bawden also showed terrific play popping up all over the field showing his great defensive and offensive talents. Cian Cotter, showed his usual tenacity in defence and was continuously mopping up any breaks that fell in the backs. Up front Sean Morrissey scored a fabulous pointed free with his left foot. Vincent Rohan and Rory Slye also put in excellent performances. The White team were unlucky to lose the first game to Carrigtwohill but on the other side of the field our Green team, inspired by the Peter Canavan – esque Liam Hennigan, won out.

The second round of games saw our lads play against an impressive Mayfield outfit. Ciaran Galligan for the Greens was everywhere, and put in a great performance – hassling the Mayfield backs when under pressure, turning over a lot of ball and delivering intelligent passes to his team mates. Craig Hogan in goals put in put in a top notch display, with some great point blank saves and kickouts that were of pinpoint accuracy. Daniel McGauran and Mark McCarthy showed great class in kicking over some fine scores from far out, ably assisted by Ben Stafford who put in a lot of work, up and down the field. In defence Mark Stafford in his usual “thou shalt not pass” mood and stopped a lot of ball from troubling the backs. The Greens won out against Mayfield whilst the White team on the other field lost narrowly to the other Mayfield team. Good performances for Aghada Whites in this game from Luke Foley who showed his usual great bravery after receiving a bloodied nose from a stray football, and Michael Barry who showed some sleek touches on the ball.

We faced a strong Glenville outfit in the final round of games. Conor O Callaghan and Kyle O Shea stepped up to the mark and showed great grit and determination and no little skill in stopping the Glenville attack and delivering the ball up to the forwards quickly and precisely. Alan Hogan too showed his class with some marvellous block downs and passing throughout the game. The greens drew with Glenville in this one with the whites putting in a battling performance on the other field but losing out in the end.

A great performance from all of our lads who can hold their heads up high after showing their ability and hard work on a rainy day in Mayfield.
