Aghada won this hard fought game at the death after missing a free in normal time to win the game. Eoin O’ Neill pointed but the ref blew the whistle as the ball crossed the bar and he was awarded a free instead which he missed. Castlelyons dominated the opening half playing with the wind led
at the short whistle by 4 points to 1 Aghada’s only score was
an Eoin O’Neill free. On the turn around Aghada took the game
to the Castlelyons boys. Michael Lewis came on corner forward and
made a difference straight away. O’Neill pointed two dead balls
in as many minutes to leave the bare minimum between the sides. A
great point from Mickie levelled matters as Aghada turned the screw.
O’Neill put Aghada in front for the 1st time with ten minutes
left. Castlelyons rallied and two points on the troth had them in
front coming down the home straight. Aghada fought back to level matters
at six points all. Them came the afore mentioned free and on to extra
time. |

15th Nov J F L Div 1 Final Aghada 3-5 Cloyne 4-6
| Aghada bowed out of championship last Sat when a very strong Bride
Rvs took the honours in a windy Rostellan. Aghada started slowly with a strong wind to their backs. The Rovers opened the scoring with a minor. Tony Wall replied for the home side. Rovers pushed ahead with 2 points before Vincent planted a placed ball over the bar. Then as the 1st Quarter finished the best forward on view Tony Wall rattled the net as Aghada hit the front for the 1st time. Morrissey and Wall added a point each to see Aghada ahead by 1-4 to 3 points at the short whistle. Now facing the wind Aghada upped the tempo when Eoin Cotter landed a super point Aghada went 5 points up. But this only acted as a spur, as the Rovers started to use the wind to full advantage opening the defence at will. By the 41st minute the sides were level after the Rathcormac outfit ran up 1-2. still Aghada held firm as Alan Walsh and Billy Hennessy tried to stem the tide, but then on the 47th m the Bride won a penalty which was converted more points followed as Aghada struggled to make head way against the wind. A great effort by evergreen Michael Lewis was denied by the post and with that Aghada’s chance of making the final went. Team Chris Cashman Dave O’Hanlon, Billy Hennessy, Alan Walsh, Willie O’Shea, Stephen Cashman, Alan Creedon, Aidan O’Connell, Richie Good Aidan Cotter (0-1), Finbarr Day, Vince Morrissey (0-2), Stephen O’Donoghue, Tony Wall (1-3), Martin Day. Aghada 3-7 Fr. O'Neill's 0-6
| Aghada’s Junior A footballers qualified for this years league final after a 7 point win over Fr. O'Neills in perfect conditions in Ballymacoda last Saturday afternoon. This win sets up a final against our near rivals Cloyne. To be fair the score line didn’t reflect how close this game was and the only difference was our forwards finishing which was clinical to say the least when the goal opportunities arose. 3 Well taken goals from Tony Wall – Ronan Kennedy and Eoin O Neill were the difference between the two teams. Other strong performers on the afternoon were Stevie Cashman, Chris Cashman, Alan Walsh and Richard Goode. |

Tues 18th Aug J3FL Aghada 2-9 Carrignavar 3-6
Fri 17th JFL Div 3 Aghada 0-12 Lisgoold 2-7
| Aghada travelled to Youghal On Sunday last for the third round fixture
with Castlemartyr. Missing some important players through Injury and
work commitments meant Aghada were always struggling to find top form
in this contest. Aghada Started brightly enough and a few well taken
points from the outstanding Matt O Connor got us off the mark. Castlemartyr
got back into the game and only for some wayward shooting would have
seen them further in front. A great sideline from Davey Creedon and
a good score on the run from Declan Morrissey had Aghada back on top
but some quick fire points from the opposition meant the score at the
break was 0-7 each. The second half started with a couple of frees from
Eoin O Neill and a great save from Andrew O’ Donoghue but Castlemartyr
scored a point from the rebound. Castlemartyr then took complete control
of the game and it was to be nearly 20 mins before Aghada registered
another score. The game looked to be heading away from us but the never
say die attitude of our lads came out again and a great move resulted
in John Wall crashing home a great goal and 1 min later John O Connor
was very unlucky to find his goal bound punch tipped over the bar by
the defence. So all in all a 2 point defeat in what must register as a major disappointment for our lads |

Aghada got this year’s football championship off to a fine
start when they had a goal to spare over a very strong Glanmire team
under lights in Carrigtwohill on Friday night. Having decided to play
with the wind Aghada were first to score when a sweeping move from
corner back up the field resulted in John O Connor scoring the opening
point on 8 mins. Shortly after Aghada took command of the game when
Matt O Connor ghosted through the Glanmire defence to slot home a
wonderful goal. Sean O Donoghue popped up from midfield with another
fine point from play and a free from Mark Lewis made it 1-3 to 0-0
after quarter of an hour. Glanmire came back into it and two fine
points from play cut the margin. A 45 from Mark Lewis and a well taken
fisted point from Mick Russell opened up a bit of a cushion for Aghada.
Glanmire got one more point from play before half time to leave the
scores at half time 1-5 to 0-3 in favour of Aghada. A great run and
point from wing Back Paudie Wall got Aghada off to a perfect start
in the second half. From this Glanmire charged into the game and kick
3 unanswered points to put the pressure back on Aghada. In the 44th
min a free from Mark Lewis seemed to settle Aghada. An off the ball
incident in which Paudie" Ronaldo Wall went down saw Glanmire
being reduced to 14 men. Another Mark free gave Aghada a cushion of
5 points going into the last five minutes but 2 quick points from
Glanmire saw the deficit cut to just a goal with a few minutes remaining.
It was all hands on deck as we had to keep them out and it took a
flying save from full back Conor Rice from a free kick at the end
to see Aghada safely into the next round. Brian Wall: Conor Rice: Shane Wall: Paudie Wall: John Wall (captain): Declan Morrissey: Sean O Donoghue: Aidan Kelleher: Miceal Russell: Stephen O Keeffe: John O Connor: Matt O Connor; John Connolly: Mark Lewis. |
