Fri 16th May Junior B football championship

Aghada 0-4 Glenville 2-11

Glenville were by far the better team here for this Michael O’Connor Motor factors Junior B football championship game played in Carrignavar last Friday night.
Having said that Aghada fielding some golden oldies had a fair share of the ball for the first twenty minutes. Davie Creedon caused a few problems at full forward for Glenville to no avail. In a breakaway movement Glenville were awarded a penalty which Christopher Cashman made a great save only for Simon Hederman to make no mistake from the rebound. Davie Creedon and Jason Foley swapped points. The post then denied Aghada’s Shane Scanlon a major, which Glenville made him pay for when Eoin Barry goaled at the other end. Martin Day replied with a minor before Noel Cahill had the last score of the half to leave Glenville ahead at the brake 2-2 to 0-2.
On resumption Glenville turned the screw with Johnny Dorgan, Ian Gardener and Simon Hederman doing the damage, point followed point. Yet Aghada never gave up with Mickey Lewis and Séanie O’Keeffe proving that age is no barrier to playing football. Fittingly Aghada’s outstanding centre back Conor Rice had the final say with a mighty point but Glenville sat out their stall and intend to go a long way in this competition.

Fri 9th May Junior football league 3 Aghada 2-13 Dungourney 0-12

Aghada’s JB footballers had a good win last Friday when they travelled to Dungourney to play the home side in Round 7 of the Division 3 league. A good game of football between two evenly matched sides was ultimately decided by a goal in each half from Aghada, plus a couple of vital saves from Christopher Cashman in goals. In the first half Mickey Lewis set up Eoin O’Donovan who fired home a great goal after 20 minutes and then in the second half, again with 20 minutes played, Lewis earned a penalty which he converted himself to ensure the points went to Aghada. Others to play well were – the man back from Oz, Stephen Cashman, Alan Walsh and Eugene Buckley when introduced. Aghada team and scorers –

Sun 20th April Junior Football championship

Aghada 0-9 Midleton 1-8

The general consensus after the game was we left it after us as we out played Midleton for large parts of the game.
Aghada started the better a mighty point from Nigel Berry opened the scoring after 2 minutes. With John Connelly well in control at centre back Aghada went forward at will but our finishing was not what it should be. With Nigel Berry and young and Eoin Healy plucking balls out of the air Aghada had the upper hand yet could not pull away despite goal efforts from Mark Lewis and Healy we could not shake Midleton off. It was score for score as the short whistle beckoned. Aghada’s defence was water tight with Shane Wall, Connelly, Pa Connors and Alan Creedon to the fore yet the half time score was 0-3 to 0-3.
On resumption Midleton were a better team and went ahead for the first time which they were never to lose on the 32nd minute. Tony Wall added an outstanding point a minute later then we started to gift the town boy’s scores well in control we gave away silly passes which resulted in Midleton scores as they went two points clear in as many minutes. Lewis pulled one back from a dead ball but Midleton added one more a minute later. Tosser again converted a placed ball to put one between the sides with ten minutes left on the clock but then disaster as Midleton struck for a goal game over you would say but true to Aghada’s form the fight back started scoring 3 minors in as many minutes from Healy , Creedon and Tosser from a placed ball. Now only one point win the kick out and anything could happen but Midleton got the ball and put the game beyond us with the last kick of the game. While losing 2 championship game over one weekend there was a lot of plus’s Eoin Healy was one of them . team
