Fri 18th May U12 football league Aghada 2-10 Russell Rv 4-4
| In the 6th round of the under 12 football league, Aghada and Russell Rovers played out an exiting draw in Rostellan on Friday the 18th of May. In the end though, Aghada will be disappointed that having built up a substantial lead, they failed to hang on for the victory. In the 1st half, Aghada played aswell as they have all year. An early goal from corner forward Robbie Steele got them off to a great start. Aaron Stafford kicked 3 superb points from centre back in this half, while Darren Sisk at corner forward was also impressive. At half time Aghada led 1- 6 V 1-2. Aghada continued to dominate after the restart, with lively midfielder Conor O’Driscoll scoring 2 quick points. Darren Sisk scored a great goal, but slowly Rovers were starting to build momentum and get back in the game. Their 1st 3 scores of the second half were 3 goals and by the time the 3rd had gone in, they were now totally in the ascendancy. Two points from Jordan Ryan failed to stem the tide and Rovers kicked two points at the death to garnish a share of the spoils. Mon 14th May U12 football league Aghada 1-10 St. Catherines 2-1
|
Aghada travelled to Ballynoe to play St. Catherines in the 5th round of the league on Monday the 14th of May. While we were deserving winners on the night, it could so easily have gone the other way as Aghada failed to convert ample possession into scores. At the interval, Aghada led by 8 points to one goal and had played some nice flowing football in that half. But all credit to St. Catherines who battled from start to finish and looked favourites to steal the points when they came back to only trail by 2 points, and with the breeze in the second half. It wasn’t until Conor O’Driscoll scored a fortuitous goal with time running out, that a game which should have been won comfortably was finally secured. Aghada Team and Scorers – Michael Leahy, Jake O’Donoghue, Shane Dorney, Shane Crowley, Aarron Stafford, Mathew Stafford, Conor O’Driscoll (1-2,1-0 F), Kareem Tynan, Shane Bennett (0-1), Jordan Ryan (0-2), Andrew Murphy (0-1), Sean O’Leary (0-1), Darren Sisk (0-2).
