U10 HURLING 2007

Sat 8th Sept Aghada win u10 hurling tournament in style

The under 10s got their just reward on Saturday with a great win in the Rostellan Tournament.
This was the finals day of the series of games that started in April and on the day the squad faced three tough games.

Game 1:
Aghada 3-3 Castlelyons 0-0.

On the scoresheet this seems an easy game. Far, far from it!! Castlelyons game another great performance. But two great strikes from Aaron Butler and one from Charlie Terry plus points from the superb Daniel Creedon and captain John Looney ensured we progressed. The Aghada Triangle of Mark Healy, John Looney and Daniel Creedon dominated but everyone played well.
Team
Jack Farmer
Luke O Connell, Edward Leahy, Cian Savage,
Joe Hennigan, John Looney, Matthew Kidney
Daniel Creedon, Mark Healy,
Kevin O Hanlon, Charlie Terry, Jack MacDonald
Steven O Halloran, Aaron Butler, Paul Daly

Subs. Matthew Leahy, Declan Foley, Callum Maloney, Ben Foley, Jack Foley, Robert Stafford,
Nevin Hall, Kaelin O Donoghue, Aaron Berry, Steven Daly, Hannah Looney, Connor Cotter, Daniel Horgan, Patrick Rice, Martin Coleman and Bobby McCarthy.

Semi - Final Aghada 3-2 Kiltha Og 1-1

The team was changed here and we were given a real scare by Kiltha Og., who rattled into the game and put us under real pressure. By now, certain players were beginning to shine and Kevin O Hanlon in particular led the charge when introduced, scoring two goals. Another goal from Charlie Terry plus two great points from the majestic John Looney put us into the final.

Team
Jack Farmer
Luke O Connell, Edward Leahy, Cian Savage,
Declan Foley, John Looney, Jack MacDonald,
Aaron Berry, Daniel Creedon
Charlie Terry, Robert Stafford, Kaelin O Donoghue
Hannah Looney, Jack Foley, Matthew Leahy

Subs, as above

Final Aghada 5-4 Carrigtwohill 1-2

A really tough encounter that we won in the final few minutes. Carrig are a great side and the standard of hurling would have graced any pitch. The Aghada lads were heroes to a player and won it with goals from Charlie Terry (2), Aaron Butler and Matthew Leahy (2) as well as points from Charlie Terry, Mark Healy, John Looney and Daniel Creedon.
But this was only half the story. Joe Hennigan was brilliant at wing back. Jack Farmer was outstanding in goal. Cian Savage got better and better at full back.
In the end we could mention everyone but John Looney captained a great side to a well deserved victory and after the final whistle everyone in the panel was recognised for the day but also for the entire summer.

A word of thanks.

The three mentors, Joe Terry, Philip Kidney and Kevin Foley want to thank everyone for their support, especially the parents who are always there to be counted. Their sons and daughters (sorry Hannah!!) did them proud over the summer.
A special word for Martin Looney – the unsung hero and top man!!!

The Players.

Over the whole summer, everyone on the panel made huge contribution. On Saturday, we fully intended to give everybody a game and it is a real tribute to the teams we played that we could not change the team much. However, the following is the list of players and some of the memorable contributions they made over the campaign.

Jack Farmer – Superb on Saturday, particularly against Carrig when the heat was on. Also 2 great goals against Tracton
Cian Savage. Masterful at full back against Carrig. Clearance overhead in second half.
Luke O Connell- A forty yard run and clearance in Fermoy, like a runaway truck!!
Edward Leahy – Came into his own in second half against Carrig. Very solid all year
Jack MacDonald- Probably our most versatile player forward or back with equal skill
John Looney- Top scorer on the road (4-8). Performance in Shanagarry was a class apart.
Matthew Kidney – Naturally left sided. A tough back in his fathers mould!!
Daniel Creedon – His performance against Kiltha Og got us to the final. But for him…
Mark Healy – Our first captain. Workaholic. Tireless all day Saturday. Deserved his point in final.
Charlie Terry- Great in Shanagarry but brilliant in the final. A big occasion player, hopefully!!
Paul Daly – Held the line brilliantly on Saturday. Can be great on his day.
Aaron Berry – Great score against Russell Rovers when we were under the cosh. Great attitude
Matthew Leahy- First goal in final. A natural finish from a natural finisher.
Jack Foley. Worked really hard against Kiltha Og. Led the line well.
Steven O Halloran – Started as keeper. Very solid. Tireless worker on the forty since.
Kevin O Hanlon – The final against Carrig. Genuinely great performance.
Aaron Butler- Has sweetest strike of a sliotar in the squad. Six gaols Saturday. First v Castlelyons – a flyer!!
Kaelin O Donoghue -Great all year. Two great strikes v Tracton. Genuinely unlucky not to feature more on Saturday. His time will definitely come.
Daniel Horgan- Has never refused the keepers jersey!! A heroic display against Russell Rovers
Declan Foley – Very impressive in Fermoy. Showed as a sticky wing back. Great attendance record!!
Callum Maloney- Very unlucky not to score in Fermoy. Massively improved this year.
Hannah Looney – Very powerful in possession. Blessed is she among men!!
Bobby MacCarthy - A great discovery. Solid second half v Castlelyons in August.
Connor Cotter- Very good against Tracton in second half. Improving all the time.
Joe Hennigan. Outstanding in Final. Had every skill. Second half catch and clearance summed him up.
Ben Foley- Always solid. Good second half against Tracton
Nevin Hall- Very good in April game against Carrig. Natural pace.
Patrick Rice- Good performance early against Carrigtwohill. Improving.
Steven Daly- Has never had a poor game. Gets on with the job. Can play as a back or forward. Great campaign.
Martin Coleman- Genuinely unlucky not to feature on Saturday. One of the great charachers.
Robert Stafford- Excellent against Fermoy. Improving all the time.
Liam Farrell- A tough customer in the back line. Can be a great full back. Showed it against Tracton
