U10 FOOTBALL & HURLING 2007

Sat 30th June u10 hurling Fermoy 0-1 Aghada 4-8

The under 10 hurlers put up another very strong performance in Fermoy on Saturday in a game that was closer than the scoreline suggests.

Fermoy took the game to the Aghada lads from the start and the backs came under heavy pressure. With Edward Leahy again in good form along with Cian Savage and Luke O Connell on either side, the full back line was solid. John Looney, helped by strong performances from wing backs Declan Foley and Matthew Kidney, again produced a fine performance to score 2-2 including the only goal of the first half.

Points from Charlie Terry, Matthew Leahy and Daniel Creedon ensured that Aghada came to the break in front and, as usual, changes were made at half-time to make sure that everyone on the panel played. In the second half, with Steven O Halloran taking over in goal, scores from Robert Stafford (1-0) and Jack Farmer (1-1) as well as two more points from captain Daniel Creedon sealed the game for the visitors.

This was a very good win against a well trained, well organised and well disciplined Fermoy outfit. The panel is very together and the attitude is always good. Players such as Jack MacDonald, with a great game here, Hannah Looney, back after her injury, the two Foley brothers (Ben and Jack) and Kevin O Hanlon deserve a mention as well as improving players such as Callum Moloney, Aaron Berry, Aaron Butler, Nevin Hall, Conor Cotter, Joe Hennigan and Kaeiln O Donoghue who all performed well in this game.

The panel included

Jack Foley
Cian Savage Edward Leahy Luke O Connell
Declan Foley John Looney Matthew Kidney
Daniel Creedon (capt) Charlie Terry
Kevin O Hanlon Aaron Butler Jack MacDonald
Matthew Leahy Jack Farmer Aaron Berry

Sat 16th June u10 hurling Aghada 8-5 Tracton 1-0

The under 10 hurlers got back to winning ways on Saturday in Rostellan with a big scoreline against Tracton. Up to now certain players have dominated the games but the whole team performed in this game. Everyone played a huge part and a few players got back to form.

Aghada dominated the game from the start and the forwards were in great form. The backs were not under a lot of pressure but, marshalled by John Looney and Aaron Butler, they kept their concentration and dealt with anything that came their way. Daniel Creedon and Charlie Terry continued their good seasons and worked very hard to dominate the midfield.

Jack Farmer (2-2), Kevin O Hanlon (2-0), Kaelin O Donoghue (2-0), Charlie Terry (1-0), Joe Hennigan (1-0) and Mark Healy (0-3) got on the scoresheet but the entire panel played again and everyone contributed. Substitutions were made at half-time and the second half team did as well as the first fifteen.
The spirit and commitment of these players, especially in training, is a credit to them and the support from the crowd was a huge bonus, as usual!!

A word for Tracton. They were under the cosh for most of the game but they never let their heads go down. They kept going to the end and were a credit to their club and mentors. They deserved to score a fine goal late in the game.

The line up included

Steven O Halloran
Luke O Connell, Edward Leahy, Aaron Butler
Declan Foley, John Looney, Mathew Kidney
Daniel Creedon, Charlie Terry
Kevin O Hanlon, Mark Healy, Jack MacDonald
Kaelin O Donoghue, Cian Savage, Jack Farmer

Matthew Leahy, Jack Foley, Nevin Hall, Paul Daly, Ben Foley, Steven Daly, Connor Cotter,
Joe Hennigan, Robert Stafford, Aaron Berry, Liam Farrell, Callum Moloney

Ar mbuíochas aris le gach duine taobh istigh agus taobh amuigh den bpairc!!

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN!!!

Next game –a trip to Fermoy at the end of the month.

Wed 23rd May u 10 hurling Russell Rovers 5-1 Aghada 1-6

The under 10s put up another great performance in Shanagarry on Wednesday night (23rd May). They produced some brilliant hurling in the first half and deserved to be leading at half-time. A masterful display by John Looney (as well as powerful performances by Mark Healy, Daniel Creedon and Charlie Terry) ensured that the lads took the game to Russell Rovers.

After the break, in keeping with the spirit of the competition as well as following the policy of giving a game to everyone who comes to training, substitutions were made and Russell Rovers gained the upper hand netting three times in quick succession.

So again, as in our first win last time, and our first defeat now, we have lessons to learn. The entire panel did their club, parents and mentors proud and all substitutions were accepted in the spirit of squad togetherness.
The players will learn from this and be the better players and clubmen because of it.

ALL FOR ONE and ONE FOR ALL!!!!

Thur 17th May Under 10 Hurling Aghada 1-7 Carrigtwohill 2-1

The under 10 hurlers got their season off to a good start on Tuesday night in Rostellan. Captained by Mark Healy, they put up a very strong second half performance to edge out a very good Carrigtwohill side who went into the break with a three point lead. Playing with the wind in the second half the accurate shooting of John Looney, Daniel Creedon and Mark Healy told in the end as Aghada took the two points.

There is a great squad spirit with this group of players and the attendance for training is always high on a Sunday morning. This spirit was evident in this game when Carrig really put it up to them.

Aghada, missing Kevin O Hanlon through injury, gave a good account of themselves to be in contention at the break and a goal by John Looney soon after set the tone for the second half.

In the end, a good win, proving that dedication to training and commitment to Aghada GAA club pays dividends. The support from the crowd was very much appreciated as well.

The next game is away to Russell Rovers in a fortnight, before the bank holiday. Its back to the training pitch. Lessons to be learned and praise deserved.
