Fri 16th Sept u14 football A championship

Aghada 3-5 Fr. O’Neill’s 4-5

2-1 down after seven minutes all over. No our lads had other ideas
Russell pointed to open Aghada’s account on the 12th minute. Four minutes later O’Neill’s struck again another major. It was time to stand up or die a minute later Josh latched on to a ball GOAL two minutes Josh again Goal. O’Neill’s reply two minors before Russell put’s a penalty kick away to leave the half time score O’Neill’s 4-2 Aghada 3-1 back in the game.
Russell pointed after the brake and how Aghada pressed to no avail. The O’Neill lads held firm as Kenneth Higgins, Michael Russell and Eoin Healy tried for goal when maybe points were a better option. Despite two more Russell points followed by a point from young Davie Rice O’Neill’s ran out winners 4-5 to 3-5. While Aghada lost out we can be proud we upheld our tradition and gave our all.

Sat 27th Aug Aghada win La Tarattoria Cup

Once again Rostellan looked at its best. All the staff was in place and what a job they done, all we now needed was footballers. And we got them. First up were Aghada v Killeagh/Ita’s and this game set the tone. Killeagh winning on the scoreline1-2 to 0-1 a bad set back but not fatal. The next game was the defending champions Glanmire (2) against Kiltha Óg with the Castlemartyr/Dungourney outfit winning 1-8 to 1-2. Aghada then had a handy win over Glanmire 4-6 to 1-2. The next game was between near neighbours Killeagh/Ita’s and Kiltha Óg with the Killeagh boys winning 2-4 to 1-1. Now the host club had a show down with Kiltha Óg a game which we won handy. That left the defending champions Glanmire (2) looking for a result against the leaders Killeagh/Ita’s and how close they came but the strength of the eastern boys won through.
It was now down to a final undefeated Killeagh/Ita’s against hosts Aghada. The combination side ran a way with the first half winning 1-4 to a Michael Russell point at the brake. Now starts the story. Aghada turns with the wind playing into the wood goal.
Russell, Georgio and Russell again pointed, Hope, back into the game, but the Killeagh/Ita’s side are good two more points and Aghada are dead. Wait Josh is on the ball point. Kick out Aghada press on Russell is in goal chance O’ no point. Killeagh/Ita’s come again, time running out. Captain Gearóid Murphy clears. Russell gathers Go for goal, he passes to Georgio block down. Last chance gone. Wait Andrew gathers, in to Josh. Free to Aghada with time up. Russell goes to take but Georgio said No go in. we need a goal. Georgio lobs it in and after a melee the afore mentioned Russell goaled to level the game with the final kick of the game. Now Aghada smell blood and wanted extra time and how if paid off. Winning the toss Aghada played with the wind. But Killeagh/Ita’s were first to score. Russell and Josh O’Shea replied then the defining moment a penalty. Up stepped Russell GOAL leading at the half time brake 1-2 to 0-1
Could we hold out facing into a stiff breeze?
Killeagh/Ita’s started to apply pressure. A point after two minutes then another after seven’ we were in trouble. Killeagh/Ita’s then got the chance of the match but Keeper John O’Brien made a double save and cleared his lines Killeagh/Ita’s came again and pointed to leave the game on a knife edge but our lads held out for a famous victory .
Thanks to the three teams that came to Rostellan and we hope this tournament will help you with you championship.

Wed 30th U14 football league Aghada 0-0Youghal 7-10

On Wed night Youghal were the visitors and Again we were found wanting. After ten minutes we were 3-5 down. This time there was no way back with Youghal running out winners by 7-10 to 0-0 sad reading indeed. Two years ago both teams contested one of the best u12 finals played. Youghal won scoring a goal in injure time to win by 5 points. That seems like a long time ago. Aghada 4-7 Inniscarra 5-8

Our u14 footballers met a good Inniscarra side in this years feile peil in Rostellan last Monday. While we were short a few players we were no way ready for what happened. The Mid Cork side built up a lead of 4-1 to no score before Aghada knew were we were. The only ray of hope was the way we came back. Aghada were camped on the Inniscarra line for most of the second half pulling the score line back to 5-9 to 4-7.
