| All the hype about tickets and yet you could walk in
the Cloyne field for free a see a game of hurling second to none.
This under 12 game was played in the true tradition of Aghada/Cloyne
matches. Class hurling played with break neck speed with no quarter
asked or given. Cloyne opened the game with two points and had our lads on the back foot, Cloyne pressed hard but found Captain and full back Cormac Sheehan to hot to handle while out side him Jeffery Creedon excelled at centre back, flanked by Tim Hartnett and Jack Hayes the Aghada Half backline started to dominate. Still Cloyne came and some great saves from goalie James O’Leary kept us in the game. Rory Hurley and Kane Looney tried hard up front but found a very strong Cloyne full line. Points from William Leahy and Gerard O’Brien left the half time score 0-3 to 0-2 for Cloyne. On the turn around Dave Rice and William Leahy upped the tempo but Cloyne still added the points to leave them three points clear entering the last quarter. Slowly Aghada got on top two frees from Ryan O’Keeffe had the crowd on its feet and when he pointed a 65 we were level with five minutes on the clock. Then in a magic moment William rattled the net with a blistering shot after good work from Bryan O’Byrne and Raymond Savage. How the sideline celebrated. It was not over yet in typical Cloyne style they turned the screw and threw every thing into attack and how close they came. Cloyne rained down ball after ball on the full backline but the brave hearted Rosin Phelan and Scott Coyle/Garde held the fort. When you back is to the wall you see what you have and Aghada passed the test with flying colours. David Rice now cleared ball after ball as Cloyne camped on Aghada’s forty-yard line even though the hit the side netting a number of times our lads held firm. Now the hurling was hard and furious yet no one stepped back brave lads all. Michael McCarthy made a last raid into Cloyne territory but the ball drifted wide yet it was enough as the final whistle went with the puck out for a famous victory for the green and white much to the relief of the large Aghada following. If you follow hurling do your self a favour next Mon night and go into Midleton to see the final when our lads take on the might of Watergrasshill at 7-30 Team James O’Leary, Scott Coyle/Garde, Cormac Sheehan (Capt) , Roisin Phelan, Tim Hartnett Jeffery Creedon, Jack Hayes, David Rice, William Leahy (1-1), Michael McCarthy, Gerard O’Brien (0-1), Bryan O’Byrne Kane Looney , Ryan O’Keeffe (0-3),Rory Hurley, Sub used Raymond Savage for Rory Hurley.
