Tue 31st May Junior 1 football Aghada 2-13 Cobh 1-8

Thur 19th May Junior B football championship

Aghada 0-7 Midleton 1-7

Aghada bowed out of this championship at the 2nd hurdle , when they went downto Midleton on last Thursday week. Played in the rain in Cobh, Aghada never really got going, despite having the advantage of a strong wind in the first
half. Midleton earned and scored a spot kick in this half, and while Aghada
seemed to create the same opportunity at the other end, only a free and not
a penalty was awared to Stephen O' Donoghue.Midleton led by 4 at the brake, and held this lead to the final whistle , as scores became even harder to come by. In the end Midleton were deserving winners with only Mark Crowley, Dominic Cashman and Sean O'Keeffe playing up to scratch for Aghada. Team -

Sat 30 April Junior Football Championship

losers round

Aghada 0-9 Midleton 0-6

Aghada successfully came through the back door and through to round 3 of this year's championship, when they had a hard earned victory over Midleton in Ballinacurra on Saturday last. Despite Brian Morrissey opening the scoring after just a minute with a point from play, Aghada had a terrible opening half. Aghada's only other score of the first period came when Mark Lewis pointed a free after Shane Scanlon was fouled in the 27th minute. In between Aghada did kick a number of bad wides, but overall Midleton, playing with the wind, were the better of the 2 sides in this half, and were unlucky to only lead by 4 points to 2 at the break. Morrissey again opened the scoring in the second period, after Scanlon set him up, but
Midleton responded with 2 points in a minute to lead by 3 with 13 minutes gone. Mark Lewis, by now operating on the '40, started to have a real influence on the game, and after a good solo run he set up Tony Wall for a good score on 14 minutes. The selectors made a number of other changes at this point, and they seemed to have the desired effect as Aghada, finally started to look the more likely. Aiden Kelleher was moved to midfield, with Billy Hennessy going
to centre back in a move the benefited both players. Kelleher was fouled after a good run, and James O'Connell pointed the resulting free, and 2 minutes later Billy won a great ball at the back and set up Lewis for the equaliser on 18 minutes. It was all Aghada now with the backs well on top. A great block down by full back Paul Kilbane, released Paudie Wall on a surging run up the field
and Lewis was on hand to again finish off the move with a point. Aghada were still holding on to this slender lead with 3 minutes to go, when Billy produced the score of this game (or any other game for that matter). Jinking his way 50 yards up the field leaving numerous defenders in his wake, he coolly slotted over for Aghada's 8th point. Ger Melvin had the final say with another excellent
point, after a playing a one two with Pa Connors, and Aghada had a deserved 3-point victory. Aghada Team -

Sun 1st May Junior B Football Championship

Aghada 1-13 St. Catherines 0-7

Junior B Manager, Kevin O'Connell and his selectors John Bennett and Michael Lewis and an awful dose with this fixture, as the venue was changed twice at the last minute, but it was all worth it when Aghada recorded their first win
of the year over a gallant St. Catherines outfit in the first round of this years championship. The game was eventually played in Rostellan on Sunday last. The first 5 names on the Aghada team sheet were Patrick Sisk, Mark Crowley,
Paul O'Donoghue, Jim Motherway and Seanie O'Keeffe. Someone said that 10 years ago, they would still have been old, but all 5 were excellent and never put a foot wrong, although one or two feet might have went astray from Motherway alright. At centre back was the excellent Alan Morrisssey who really seems to relish the physical aspect that comes with the bigger ball and Dominic Cashman was on top of his game at wing back. Nigel Berry from Portugal, made a welcome return at midfield, and along with Aiden Cotter, dominated the exchanges in the middle of the park. Up front Stephen O'Donoghue, flown home from Australia especially for this game, was in super form and himself and corner forward Niall Falvey caused no end of trouble for the Catherine's defence. Brain Walsh got through an amount of work at wing forward, Mark O'Brien played the proverbial
blinder on the other wing, while inside him Leonard O'Keeffe chipped in with a couple points. Aghada, who started with the wind at their backs, led from start to finish but could never really shake off a dogged St. Catherine's team,
who refused to give up. A goal from Nigel midway through the second half did put a bit of daylight between the sides and Aghada were also able to bring on fresh legs in the closing stages in the form of Davy Hartnett, Charlie Mc Carthy
, Paudie O'Neill, Sean O'Donoghue and Eoin O'Donovan which helped keep the lead
in tact till the final whistle.

Aghada 0-10 Fr. O'Neills 1-12

Aghada were well in control of this game with 15 minutes left on the clock. Then an O’Neill’s goal changed the scene. We were 2 points up and looking good then came the goal. While the best forward on view Shane Scanlon pointed to level the game on the 48th minute O’Neills took control scoring 6 minors and we did not score again until wing back Pa O’Connor pointed in injury time. O’Neills opened the scoring with a point after 4 minutes of play. Two frees from Mark Lewis followed by a mighty Scanlon point had Aghada ahead after the 1st quarter mark. O’Neills had the next three scores before Scanlon again was on target. Tony Wall added two one from a free to O’Neills one to leave the half time score 0-6 to 0-5 in our favour. After the brake O’Neills levelled before Lewis and Wall put Aghada clear. This was Aghada’s best spell. Billy Hennessy and Paul Kilbane controlling the game. Then came the goal and that was that O’Neills into the 3rd round Aghada into the losers group. Brian Wall had a splendid game in goals. Team Brian Wall

he JB's had an early start on Sunday morning, with a long trip to Glenville in Division 2. A much stronger home side had things more or less all their own way in the first period which ended on a 2-6 to 0-1 score line. Aghada were a much improved outfit playing with the wind in the second half and managed to hold their own with the home side. The final score was Glenville 3-13 Aghada 1-5. The highlights for Aghada were a super Brian Wall save , a well taken goal by centre forward Tony Wall, and a super point from young Mike O'Neill. Aghada team -

Aghada 1-7 Castlemartyr 1-12

On Saturday last, Aghada's second string were away to Castlemartyr in the 3rd round of this years league. Aghada started the better side and were 5 points to the good after 15 minutes. It looked at this stage as if Aghada would run away with it, but back came the home side, who scored 1-2 in the space of 3 minutes. A minute later "the reds" took the lead and they never looked back from here. At half time the score was 1-6 to 0-6 in favour of Castlemartyr.Things only got worse for Aghada in the second half with Castlemartyr well on top in most areas. Midfielder Tom O'Neill did have a good point after 10 minutes, but this was the only score Aghada got until a last minute goal from Christy O'Shea which left the final score Castlemartyr 1-12 V Aghada 1-7. Aghada 0-2 Bride Rovers 0-2

On Sunday the junior A's travelled to Rathcormack to play Bride Rovers in Division1. This game finished all square on the remarkable scoreline of 2 points each.John Connolly kicked both Aghada scores. Don't be fooled by the scoreline however, this game was actually worse than that, but none the less Aghada remain unbeaten in Division 1 this year.

Aghada 0-6 Russell Rv. 4-6

The new junior B management had their first outing of the year in Rostellan. on Saturday last against a strong Russell Rovers outfit. The selectors must have been delighted to have 15 players, 25 minutes before throw in, but you could see them getting worried as the bodies kept piling into the dressing room giving them a selection headache choosing from 25 players!!. Aghada did well enough in the first half, but a superior Rovers outfit ran out easy winners at the end of 60mins. Frank O'Brien, Dominic Cashman and Declan Kearney were best for Aghada.Aghada team -
