Thur 21st July Junior Hurling League Aghada 3-4 Russell Rv. 2-12
Aghada put up a good performance against the Shanagarry men, on Thursday last, but fell just short of upsetting Richie, by taking the points. Rovers had the best of the opening half, but a goal and a point just coming up to half time gave Aghada some hope turning to play with the wind. The score at the break was Aghada 1-1 V Russell Rovers 1-7. Aghada had some stirling performances at the back in that half from Davy Hanlon, Shane Morrissey and Cathal O’Gorman. Rovers goaled early in the second half, but Aghada replied with one of their own. Chopper was introduced at corner forward and first chopped and then goaled, to put Aghada right back in the contest. 2 excellent points from Anthony Connolly and John Wall, narrowed the gap further and with Brendan Crowley and Dominic Cashman working hard at midfield, Aghada were well in the game. Rovers had that bit too much fire power however and tacked on a few more well taken points despite the best efforts of Liam Day, Liam Morrissey and Rasper in goals. Final score Aghada 3-4 v Rovers 2-12. Aghada team & scorers – (Rasper), Fergal Condon

A new look Aghada team could not account for
a determined Saints in Copper Ally Catherine’s had two points on board before Vincent Morrissey pointed from a dead ball. The best forward on view Alan Creedon then opened his account with a great point followed 3 minutes later by an even better goal in the 16th minute. Aghada now had the better of the play with John Wall and Vincent Morrissey and midfielder Aidan Cotter causing all kinds of bother for St. Cats. All three had chances that shaved the post (these were to prove costly as was a blow to Walls head). Another point from both Creedon and Morrissey kept Aghada in front at the brake by a single score after playing with the wind 1-4 to 0-6. Declan Kearney stretched the lead with a sublime point and it looked like we were on our way but little did we know that we would only score one more point for the rest of the game and that came from Morrissey on the 50th minute. By that time the Saints had added a goal and two points. They added two more scores then Aghada mounted a challenge and to be fair nearly brought it off when following a Morrissey free which the goalie saved but sub Davie Creedon was their for the rebound. Alas for Aghada the ref adjudged the Davie was in the square. Team Martin Day, Davie Hanlon, Anthony Connolly, Shane Morrissey Tom O’Neill, Cathal Ó Gormaín, Aidan Heavin, Aidan Cotter, Alan Walsh. John Wall, Vincent Morrissey (0-3), Dominic Cashman Declan Kearney (0-1), Andrew O’Brien , Alan Creedon (1-2) Subs Darren Lee for Cashman half time. Davie Creedon for Walsh 40th minute, Sean O’Keeffe for Kearney 53rd m an Liam Morrissey for Hanlon 57th m. |

Tue 19th April JHL2 Aghada 0-7 Youghal 3-12

Sun 17th April.B.H. League - Aghada 1-10 Dungourney - 2-7
| Aghada travelled to Dungourney on Sunday last for the 2nd round of this years league. Again conditions were poor after a day of all rain. Dungourney started the better, and seemed to be able to create goal chances at will. Michael Lewis in the Aghada goal was in top form, and made several important saves, and thanks mainly to this, Aghada only trailed by 2 goals at half time. With the wind behind them for the second period, Aghada upped their game and dominated for long periods. Scores were hard to come by however, and with time running out the Dungourney lead was down to 3 points. Good work from Dominic Cashman and Andrew O'Brien set up Tony Wall for an equalising goal, and when John Connolly pointed a huge free minutes later, it looked like Aghada had snatched victory. Dungourney came back however, and pointed a free themselves, which left both sides with a share of the spoils. Aghada Team – |
Tue 12th April JHL 2 Aghada 2-10 Bride Rv. 1-12
| Aghada JB'S got their year off to a winning start when they defeated Bride Rovers in the first round of this years league. Played in Rostellan, on Tuesday last, heavy rain made the underfoot conditions very difficult. Aghada dominated the opening exchanges, but were unable to convert possession into scores. at the other end the Bride Rovers men were far more clinical and were converting almost ever attempt into a score. Full forward Kieran O'Connor scored a fine individual goal, but rovers quickly replied with a major of their own. At half time Aghada were 2 points adrift. The second half continued in much the same vain as the first. Mickey Lewis made a fine save in the aghada goal to keep the gap at 2 points. Then in injury time a '65 from Dereck Bowler, founds its way to the back of the net, and aghada held on for a 1 point victory. Aghada Team - My. Saturday the 30th of October at 4.00pm.
Junior 1 hurling league playoff – Aghada 0-16 Castlemartyr 1-16
Sat 24th Oct Junior A Hurling league play off
Aghada 4-6 Russell Rovers 3-7
Aghada had a good win in very testing conditions in Rostellan on Saturday last. Playing into a strong breeze in the first half, Aghada found themselves trailing for most of this period. Coming up to half time full forward Alan Devoy, received the ball 40 yards from goal and surrounded by defenders. Devoy, however, found a gear he hadn’t used since 1991, and took off on a solo run which finished with him upended in the square. Excellent midfielder John Connolly buried the resulting spotter and Aghada went in at half time 1 point to the good. Aghada got another goal at the start of the second half, but the Shanagarry men fought back with a goal of their own. Connolly got his second and Aghada’s third goal as the rain came lashing down for the last quarter. Fergal Condon was introduced to add a bit of youth and speed to the Aghada full forward line, and not long after his arrival he cleared a load of water off the back of the net, when he rasped in Aghada’s fourth goal. It was backs to the wall defending after that with the Aghada full back line of Davy Hanlon,Cathal O’Gorman and Stevie Cash in brilliant form. Shan did get a goal near the end but Aghada held on for a 2 point victory. Team – M.Day, D.O’Hanlon,C.O’Gorman,S.Cashman, S.Gilroy,L.Day,D.Bowler, P.Wall,J.Connolly, J.Murphy,J.Wall,A.Walsh, D.Kearney,A.Devoy,K.O’Connor.

| More disappointment for the hurlers of the parish when Aghada went out at the Quarterfinal stages of this years b grade championship. Aghada played against a very strong wind in the first half and would have been pleased enough to go in at the break 8 points to 2 down. Aghada were grateful for some excellent defending from Cathal O’Gorman, Stephen Cashman and Liam Day during this period. On the turn around Aghada started to peg back the deficit, and quickly had the lead down to just 3 points. It was a close as they got to however as Cloyne upped their performance to run out deserving victors by 6 points. Aghada Team – M.Day,S.Cashman,A.Connolly,L.Day,A.Heavin,J.Murphy,C.O’Gorman,Mk. Not as easy as the scoreline might suggest as Aghada were made to fight all
the way by a gallant Killeagh third string. Played in Castlemartyr
last Tuesday week Aghada started slowly even though they had the
wind. It wasn’t until Kieran O’Connor got into his stride
with a couple of excellent points from centre forward, that Aghada
managed to impose themselves on this game. At the back Aghada were
well on top with the full back line of Liam Day , Anthony Connolly
and Stephen Cashman especially impressive. A good goal from Derek
Bowler coming up to half time gave Aghada a bit of breathing space
turning to play into the wind, Halftime score Aghada 1-7 Killeagh

| Lucky to draw unfortunate not to win. that was the story of this
game with 7 minutes left on the clock three points behind and Blarney
after scoring 4 points within as many minutes looking like winners
. Trevor pointed on the 53 minute could we come back. Blarney brake
up the field chance, Goal or Point ball comes off the post is this
the turning point. Ball up and down the field minutes ticking away.
Then in a moment of inspiration a great point from Brian Morressy.
Have we time, ball up again, long clearance from the master (Melvin),O’Keeffe
grabs ,foul free on the 30 . up steps Vincent draw game. Puck out,
Rohan Dwane rises high comes down with the ball free in , chance to
win the game out comes Vincent long free, wide, what matter we live
to fight another day. It should never have come to this . Vincent Morressy opened the scoring after 5 minutes with a mighty point following a line ball from his brother Brian. Four minutes latter following another line ball the other Morrissey goaled when Alan connected . Aghada were coasting but were guilty of some bad wides. It took Blarney 15 minutes before they scored . This coming from a free . within a minute they were level when a long range shot found its way to the net via a flick. Pearse O'Neill now turned on the style scoring two points on the troth before Blarney scored two to leave the game on a knifes edge on the short whistle. On resumption Blarney started the better scoring two points in as many minutes Trevor O’Keeffe and Alan Morressy replied before Pearse put Aghada ahead again on the 10th minute. Now Blarney turned on the style to score four points with out reply . then came our lads. (Had we scored our frees we were home and dry ) The artistry of Melvin, the Steel of Kilbane and the youthful exuberance of Alan Morrissey was what keep Aghada in the game while 1-9 each was a small score both teams have everything to play for the next day . Team . Michael Lewis Darren Lee, JP O’Connor , Kenneth O’Keeffe Paul Kilbane , Gerard Melvin, Billy Hennessy Eoin Cotter, Brian Morressy (0-1) Vincent Morressy (0-2), Pearse O’Neill (0-3), Dave Creedan Alan Morrissey (1-1) , Ronan Dewane ,Trevor O’ Keeffe (0-2) Subs h.t. The young and the old put up a
mighty display as Aghada got over a slow start. Evergreen Peter
Cashman opened the scoring with a point that would grace any game.
The saints came back with two goals as Aghada’s defence was
in the jitters, slow to clear the ball and Ita’s make full
use of it. With Cashman revelling at centre forward Aghada came
more into the game. Minor player Paudie Wall started to show his
class and as the game got older Paudie got better impressing the
intermediate selectors. John Connelly and Mark Lewis started to
get a grip at centre field with both scoring great points. Aghada
clawed they’re way back into the game then just on the short
whistle Connelly goaled from a semi penalty to put Aghada ahead
for the first time 1-7 to 2-2. On resumption Aghada pilled on the pressure some great points followed before Derrick Bowler rattled the net. Fair play to Ita’s back they came with a goal and a point and started to put our backs under the hammer. John Murphy, Cathal O’Gormain, Stephen Cashman and Anthony Connelly were equal to the task. With the veteran Cashman back on the forty Aghada got back on top and when Wall capped a fine display with a goal our mind turned to the next round against Killeagh. Team; Martin Day Laim Day , Anthony Connelly, Stephen Cashman Aidan Heven John Murphy, Cathal O’Gormain John Connelly Mark Lewis Derrick Bowler, Peter Cashman, Paudie Wall Kerian O’Connor , Paul O’Donoghue , Declan Kearney Subs used Alan Walsh for Paul O’Donoghue 35m, Fergal Condon, Mark Galvin |
Mon 24th May junior hurling league
Aghada 1-13 Castlemartyr 1-11
The Junior hurlers finally collected their first brace of points on Monday last when they recorded an excellent win over Castlemartyr in Castlemartyr. Inspired by the excellent play of John Connolly and Mark Lewis at midfield Aghada took this game to their opponents right from the off and led at half time by 7 points to 3 points. A goal early in the second half by the returning evergreen Peter Cashman gave Aghada a bit of a cushion in the second half. In defence Stephen Cashman was doing a very good impersonation of Wayne Sherlock, clearing ball after ball from corner back.New signing Aiden Heavin finally got to make his debut and played very well through out at wing back, capping it off with an excellent point in the first half. Kieran O’ Connor was a constant thorn in the side of the Castlemartyr defence with his strong solo runs and in the end Aghada held on for a 1-13 to 1-11 victory.
