Fri 2nd April u15 football championship final

Aghada 2-8 Ballinacurra 1-5

Cian Higgins set the tone for this game when he rattled the net after only 26 seconds. Cian’s goal came at the end of a great move having won the ball at the throw in Aghada attacked only for the goalie to parry the shot but Cian was on hand to rock Ballinacurra. From the kick out the other Cian (Fleming) scored a magnificence point from a free. Ballinacurra had no answer to Aghada’s power. Cian McCathy was the launch pad from centre back while Rory Walsh had he’s best game yet at centre field. Ballinacurra managed a point on the 7th minute. But Aghada came again and when Fleming’s long range free fell into the net the writing was on the wall. Ballinacurra added an other point by Aghada finished the half the better when Eoin Healy, Rory Walsh, Cian Higgins and Michael Russell pointed to leave the half time score 2-5 to 0-5
Ballinacurra turned around with the wind to their backs and they made it pay straight away with a point straight from the kick off. within 2 minutes Conor Rice replied for Aghada. Now it was Aghada’s turn to soak the pressure as theVillage came in droves. Then on the 37th minute they got their goal. The game was now in the melting pot. Two points from Russell relived the pressure some what entering the last ten minutes.
The Village lads now upped a gear, a long-range shot hit the post and Michael Hayes gathered the rebound to clear. Ballinacurra added a point and then Hayes made a mighty save and when the ball hit the crossbar you could sense it was Aghada’s day. Ballinacurra were camped on Aghada’s 21m line and only for some great defending from captain Finbarr Day , Rohan Sheehan and Walsh kept them at bay. The Village lads got the last point to leave Aghada winners 2-8 to 1-5
Cian Higgins and James Daly impressed up front.

Aghada 2-3 Cloyne 2-1

U15 open season with a win

In our first competitive game of the year Aghada emerged victorious over near neighbours Cloyne in the u15 football championship played in Rostellan last Sunday. A low scoring game through out due in the main to the swilling wind. Aghada opened the scoring when Conor Rice was in the right place at the right time. The Cloyne keeper saved but the ball broke to Conor and he made no mistake goal. Cain Higgins who had a great game through out followed with a point. Cloyne came back at Aghada but Finbarr Day at full back and Cain McCarthy at centres back keep the Cloyne lads at bay. Cain Fleming followed with a point from a free to leave the halt time score Aghada 1-2 Cloyne 0-0
Cloyne turned with the wind and goaled almost from the start then they added a minor to leave the match on a knife-edge. Aghada were not to be out done and when James Daly finished off a great move he restored Aghada’s lead. Cloyne had other ideas and after some mighty defending by our lads the ball broke to the Cloyne forward and he made no mistake. With the game now in the meting pot Aghada started to take control Shane Wall now operating at wing back stared to influence the game that and Rory Walsh’s display at mid field turned the game. When Michael Hayes pointed on the 40th minute Aghada looked good. Try as they might Cloyne could not score again due in the main to a strong defence in which Rohan Sheehan finished the game well as did subs Gearóid Murphy and Kenneth Higgins
