Wed 25th May

u12 County Championship 1st round

Aghada 2-7 Rosscarbery 7-15

Sadly after a great east cork final our lads came up against the best u12 football team that I have ever seen.
Yes they were that good. They’re passing, their runs ,their vision. we were surely beaten by the County Champions elect.
Having said all that our lads gave it they’re all. Having lost Seamus Ó Gormain early in the day we were always up against it. But how we tried The magic of Josh and Rohan didn’t work this time . Goals from Josh and Raymond Savage gave us some solace. Richard Dowling , Raymond and Josh had a point each while Rohan made up the rest with four points to leave Aghada’s score at 2-7. well done to Giorgio Corigliano who had a mighty game at conor back. while the count result went against us we should be very proud of this team at the end of the day they are proud East Cork Champions . Well done lads

Fri 21st May u12 football championship final

Aghada 4-10 Kiltha Óg 3-3

Our lads take title after titanic struggle
While the scoreline might suggest that this was a one sided final nothing could be further from the truth
Indeed Kiltha had the ball in the Aghada net after only 30 seconds but our reaction was swift and fierce when from the kick out Josh O’Shea goaled after a great run. On the 3rd minute Kiltha went ahead with a fine point. We were now under mighty pressure. Our backline was equal to the task with Tommy Dobbin giving a master class at full back. With Jeffery Creedan covering back from centre field he helped the defence out as he cleared a pile of ball. Richie Dowling made a big impact at this stage of the game moving the ball forward one of which Josh got on the end of After another great run he shot for goal but this time the goalie was equal to the task. A minute later he had another chance but this time the goalie saved but the ball went over for a point. Kiltha again upped the tempo but Giorgio Corigliano made some thundering drives from defence clearing all before him. Michael Daly as always read the game like a veteran holding his own at centre back. Scores were by now hard to come by, then on the 11th minute Michael Desmond set up captain Rohan Kennedy for a point to give Aghada the lead for the 1st time. A minute later Rohan converted a free. Another five minutes were to pass before Aghada scored, again a pointed free from Rohan. The Dungourney/Castlemartyr outfit piled on the pressure but with Cormac Sheehan, Gerard O’Brien and Tim Hartnett sealing off their area Kiltha attacks came to nothing. Still Aghada found it hard to score until Dessie popped up to score on the 28th minute then as the short whistle sounded Rohan converted another free to leave Aghada ahead by 1-6 to 1-1.
Kiltha again had a score on the board within 30 seconds of the restart this time a point. Rohan replied with two frees and when Josh pointed a minute later it looked like Aghada were on their way. But no one told Kiltha that as they came in waves and got a goal as a reward. Now Aghada’s backs were to the wall. Jeffery Creedan and Seamus O’Gormain were to the fore in repelling the raiders. Now the crowd was behind both teams as the game reached its climax. With Aghada under such pressure it was time for fresh legs. This came from Raymond Savage and Michael Burchill. Rohan lifted the siege temporary with another pointed free. Back came Kiltha but our defence held firm. Then our mentors made the master move bring on Rory Hurley. Just on the field he hit the post. But within a minute he put matters right with a great goal on the 51st minute. Now Aghada turned the screw and when Rohan scored the best goal of the night that was that. Rory got his 2nd goal on full time. Kiltha came again and got a penalty that Kane Looney was very close to saving. Bryan O’Bryne and Klye Kennedy gave Aghada more options up front when they came on. Amid gets excitement Michael O’Brien Chairman East Cork board presented the Peadar Seymour cup to Rohan Kennedy captain of the victorious Aghada team

Fri 14th May u12 football championship semi final
Castlelyons 2-11 Aghada 5-11

Another good night at the office
What a game played from end to end by good footballers. They say that u12 games are the best to see and I am inclined to agree. Castlelyons opened the scoring with two points. Michael Desmond and Rohan Kennedy soon had us level. Dessie pointed again to give us the lead then Josh O’Shea added two more. By now Castlelyons upped the pace and soon levelled the game agai, then came Dave Rice’s goal followed by a Josh point. Not to be out done Castlelyons goaled to level the game for the third time. Then William Leahy hit the goal to leave Aghada ahead at the short whistle by 2-6 to 1-6.
Castlelyons opened the scoring with a point. Josh hit back with a goal then Giorgio Corigliano hit a mighty point followed by Rohan.Josh got a goal and a point to see Aghada 11 points clear and home and dry as we though. Castlelyons did not win the league for nothing back they came. A goal and three point on the trot now was the time for hero’s Castlelyons throwing all the had at us. Time after time Kane Looney saved the day in goal (where did he get that from). Out side him Tommy Dobbin was a colossus . Tim Hartnett, and Cormac Sheehan also held the fort . Michael Desmond pointed with a brake away move. But the best was kept for last Seamus Ó Gormáin won a great ball at centre field and was about to kick it long, then he saw Dessie he beat two men then gave Dessie a peach of a pass and that was that, a great goal. This was a great team effort Michael Daly again proving what a centre back he is. Jeffry Creedan ran himself into the ground. Gerard O’Brien was again on top of his game as was Richard Dowling . Brian Condon, Raymond Savage and Michael Burchill made a difference when they came on. It takes more than one team to make a match and fair play to Castlelyons they never gave up and their time will come. Well done all

Sat 8th May u12 football championship Group 2

Aghada 8-14 Fr O’Neills 3-5

A mighty win for our u12 footballers as they face showdown with league winners Castlelyons next week.
Aghada opened with three points one from Dessie and two from Josh O’Shea before we were rocked by a goal from O’Neills. Our response was swift and fierce. Dessie, Josh, Rohan Kennedy, Seamus O’Gormain, and Josh again pointed then Dessie put the game away with a great goal. Richie Dowling and Dave Rice put Aghada further ahead then Josh Goaled on the half time whistle to give Aghada a 2-11 to 1-1 lead at half time.
Aghada looked strong through out with Giorgio Corigliano, Tommy Dobbin and Tim Hartnett were outstanding in the full backline. Outside them the ever reliable Cormac Sheehan cleared ball after ball. Michael Daly gave a commanding performance at centre back Ger O’Brien also had a good day as did Jeffery Creedan. William Leahy was well involved at corner forward. In the second half the Aghada onslaught never let up even when Aghada brought on the subs they all played better than the other, Rory Hurley, Fergal Culligan, Brian Condon, Michael McCarthy and Raymond Savage gave of their best. Kane Looney also looked the part in goals is it in the genes well done lads

Sat 24th April u 12 football Aghada 2-9 St.Jude's 4-5

What a game, played at championship pace. Our lads put it up to the Dublin boys and were unlucky not to win. William Leahy opened the scoring with a point. He followed this with a great goal when he received a peace of a pass from Jack Hayes. Rohan Kennedy added two points to leave the half time score 1-3 to 2-3 for the Dublin lads. Aghada came under fierce pressure but Kain Looney was equal to it in goals. Indeed the whole team was outstanding with Cormac Sheehan and Giorgio Corigliano outstanding in the full backline. Michael Daly was a huge influence at centre back.
On the turn around Aghada started to make inroads on the Dublin boys Brian Condon and Seamus O’Gormaín were well on top in the centre of the park with Seamus getting a great point. Rory Hurley got the goal to leave Aghada level for the first time then the Dublin boys goaled again. But how our lads responded Rohan pointed again, then Aghada made a master move bring on Michael Desmond and David Rice who between them scored three points in as many minutes. Now Aghada had the scent of victory in their nostrils, this was to be their downfall as Aghada pressed hard for the winner we were caught on a brake away when the Saints goaled against the run of play.
Live wire Rohan Kennedy, who was a thorn in the St. Jude’s side, had the last say with a fine point but try we might we be able to not get the winner. This was a great game played with great heart and enjoyed by all.
