Fri 16th April minor hurling East Ferry 2-10 Erin's Own 4-12
Not a name you would associate with hurling yet East Ferry put up
a good fight against Erin’s Own in this minor league game. Erin’s
Own had to dig deep for this win and can thank Eoin Murphy for four
goals.
The Aghada/ Ballinacurra lads looked the part even though it was our
first outing with very little training done. We can look forward to
better things to come

Thur 8th July minor hurling league East Ferry 2-7 Carrigtwohill 2-11
East Ferry warmed up for their championship first round with a narrow
league defeat to Carrigtwohill. Played in Carrig on Thursday last,
East Ferry started brightly with corner forward Alan Morrissey seeing
a lot of the ball, but no score was forthcoming. After the first five
minutes Carrigtwohill took over completely and East Ferry was really
struggling playing against the wind. 23 minutes had elapsed before
East Ferry got their first score, a pointed free by Paudie Wall. At
this stage Carrig had 7 points up on the board and were coasting.
In the last minute of the half East Ferry corner back James O’Callaghan,
who was having an impressive outing, got injured. While he was off
being treated East ferry paid the ultimate price as Carrig’s
spare man struck for a goal. Half time score read – Carrig 1-7
East Ferry 0-1.
With the wind at their backs East Ferry were a different side in the
2nd period. Paudie pointed a ’65 on nine minutes. 5 minutes
later, O’Callaghan was fouled and Alan Mor pointed the resulting
free. Sean O’Donoghue then pointed from play, before Alan Creedon
also got in on the act, with another good point from play. At the
other end Carrig were still tapping over the scores to keep daylight
between the 2 sides. With 4 minutes remaining Alan was brought down
going through and when he picked himself up, he crashed the resulting
free to the back of the net. Declan Morrissey set up Alan Creedon
for his second point a minute later. Alan Mor was then denied another
goal at the expense of a ’65, which Paudie pointed and all of
a sudden it was a 4 point game. With time almost up East Ferry was
only a point down after corner forward Derek Daly pounced for a good
goal. It was not to be however for the East Ferry lads, as on the
stroke of full time Carrig made the game safe with a goal of their
own. Others to play well for East Ferry on the night were Finbarr
Day in goals, Peter Murphy David Condon and Damien Daly.

Thur 22nd July Minor hurling Championship East Ferry 0-9 Castlegould
0-7
Minor Hurling Championship East Ferry 0-9 V Castlegould 0-7 East
Ferry had a hard-earned victory in the first round of the minor A
hurling championship on Thursday last against the Castlelyons/Lisgoold
combination. Played in splendid conditions in Ballynoe, there was
certainly no quarter asked or given by two very committed sides. East
Ferry had the wind in the first half and was first to score when corner
forward Alan Morrissey pointed a free after he himself had been fouled.
Alan had the next score also, this time from play after collecting
a good ball in from Damien Daly. Castlegould hit back with a pointed
free of their own, before wing forward Paudie Wall hit 2 for East
Ferry one from a free and the other from play. The East Ferry defence
had started very well, where captain Liam Day was having a stormier
at full back ably assisted by Peter Murphy and James O’Callaghan.
On 23 minutes Castlegould reduced the deficit with another free, but
with five minutes to go to the break East Ferry had opened up a 3
point lead thanks to two frees from Alan Morrissey after first Damien
Daly and then Paudie Wall were fouled. Castlegould fought back however
and 2 points of their own left them trailing at the break by only
the bare minimum. Half time scores 6 to 5 in East Ferry’s Favour.
Turning to play into the wind East Ferry knew they had a huge fight
on their hands for the second half. Just like the first half, Alan
Morrissey opened the scoring from a free. This time it was the hard
working Richie Condon (by now operating at top of the left) that was
fouled. Castlegould had the next 2 points and with three-quarters
of the game gone it was all square. By now Castlegould were the dominant
team, but the East Ferry defence were standing firm. No one played
better in that last quarter than ‘keeper Finbarr Day who was
excellent throughout the match. Outside him Stephen Gilroy and David
Condon were well on top while Damo Wall made a number of last ditch
tackles ( and not always with his hurley) to keep Castlegould at bay.
Alan Morrissey lifted the siege for East Ferry with a super point
from out on the wing on 16 mins. A minute later substitute Alan Creedon
hit another good point to restore the 2-point advantage. Castlegould
aided by the breeze had most of the play but started to go for goals.
There was no way past Finbarr however who made a fantastic save on
22 minutes. 2 minutes later Castlegould earned a 21 metre free which
their goalkeeper came up to take. He drilled it low and hard, but
it was saved at the expense of a ’65. Try as they might Castlegould
couldn’t break down the Ferry defence and they held out for
a deserved victory. Team and Scorers – F. Day, P. Murphy, L.

2nd Aug Minor hurling championship semi final East Ferry 1-7 St.
Colman’s 3-6
Goals win matches or so they say. Well that’s what happened
here St. Coleman’s bagged three goals in the second half to
finish off the East Ferry challenge. But it could have been so different.
The Saints had three points on board before the Ferry replied with
a Paudie Wall seventy in the 9 minute. Coleman’s scored two
more before Paudie again pointed a long range free. The Saints added
another point on the 19th minute to go 4 points up and this was the
way it stayed till half time 0-6 for Coleman's 0-2 for the ferry
East Ferry introduced Kenneth O’Brien at the brake and he made
a difference. Alan Morrissey pointed a free with in a minute of the
restart followed by a might point from Damian Daly on the 34th minute.
Now the match was up for grabs. The Ferry was now on top with Stephen
Gilroy lording it at centre back. Then a long ball against the run
of play a goal for the Saints on the 41st minute. Back came the Ferry
and got a 20-m free, which Alan Morrissey went for goal but alas drove
it wide. Two more frees from Paudie Wall closed the gap with eight
minutes left and we again had it all to play for. Then again disaster
another goal for Coleman’s. Then came a very serious incident
when Paudie O’Sullivan got an injury, which needed a stretcher
to take him off the field. Coleman’s upped the pace after this
and got another goal on the 36th minute. Back came the Ferry when
Alan Creedon bagged a goal on the 39th minute followed by an Alan
Morrissey point a minute later to finish the days play. Damian Wall
was sent off for two yellows and was followed minutes later by a Coleman’s
man for a straight red to level up the game again
