Losing three players from that epic match against Naomh Padraig way back in August. Aghada just ran out of numbers in this teak tough match in Lisgoold. Damien Wall, Dominic Cashman and Timmy Crowley were sorely missed by Aghada due to injury, Yet Aghada could have caused an upset leading by 5 points as the
first half closed, Killeagh got a soft goal followed by a point to
leave the half time score Aghada 1-6 Killeagh/Ita’s 1-5. |
A brave effort that just fell short. When the u21 hurlers decided last Nov., That they wanted to play A hurling many felt that it might be a step to far. Their faith was well justified when after beating Cloyne in the first round they ran a star studded Sars team to one point in a game that Aghada were the better team and can count they unlucky not to win this game. Losing Eoin Cotter early in the game was no help; Billy Hennessy moved from corner back to centre was a big effluence on the game. Cotters replacement David O’Hanlon also had a good game. At the short whistle Aghada were behind 1-5 to 0-6. The scores coming from Tony Wall (3) John Connelly, Stephen O’Keeffe and Brendan Crowley one each. On resumption Aghada upped their game coming at Sars in waves. A point from Connelly reduced the lead; Wall added another in answer to one from Sars. Then came the goal, against the run of play Sars got a handy one. Aghada tried hard for a goal, a great run by Connelly bearing down on goal but alas outside the post and wide. From the puck out Sars attack again point. Five points behind all was lost but points from Wall and Stephen O’Keeffe brought us back into the game. Connelly again made a raid on the Sars goal but the Keeper was equal to his shot. Wall pointed again a two-point game with as many minutes left. Then an Aghada mistake lead to a Sars point and from the puck out Sars scored the insurance point and it was wanted. JP O’Connor now operating on the forty grabbed the ball and headed for goal and he got it. Aghada failed to win the puck out and ref Bill Cody blew the long whistle to leave Sars into the final. JP O’Connor gave an all star performance at full back, as did Billy Hennessy at centre back John Connelly and Alan Walsh also put in a good hour Team Martin Day, Billy Hennessy, JP O’Connor (1-0), Stephen Cashman, Thomas O’Neill, Eoin Cotter, Laim Day, John Connelly (0-2), Alan Walsh, John Wall, Brian Morrissey, Derrick Bowler Stephen O’Keeffe (0-2), Brendan Crowley (0-1), Tony Wall (0-6) Subs David Hanlon for Cotter, Conor Hickey for Bowler 52nd m |
Youghal lived up to their reputation when they turned
on the power to defeat our lads in Ballymocoda . Yet day did not have all their own way as Aghada fought hard all the way and only for taking the wrong options when points were for the taking we could have being a lot closer at the finish . one score from play even if it was a well taking goal from David Hartnett ,was never going to trouble Youghal who have their sights set on the county . all our other scores came from frees Declan Morrissey , Martin Day two points each while Tony Wall got one . Team ; Brian Wall Mark Galvin , Timmy Crowley, Laim Morrissey Declan Kearney, Stephen Gilroy, Paudie Wall Laim Day , Declan Morrissey Dominic Cashman, Martin Day, Peter Murphy Shane Scanlon, Tony Wall (capt) Shane Morrissey, Subs used David Hartnett for Dominic Cashman (inj)28th minute,Alan Morrissey for Shane Morrissey (half time), , Laim Curtin for Shane Scanlon 45th minute , Richie Condon for Mark Galvin 54th minute, Sean O’ Donoghue for Laim Day 54th minute |
Fri 17th Oct minor football Aghada 3-8 Glenville 3-10
Aghada scenting blood tacked on three more points after the brake again from Wall. Now Naomh Padraig started to trouble Aghada but our backline outstanding all night long held out ,A round this time the Ref Killian Looney must have booked half the Cloyne/Castlemartyr sideline. When the game resumed the Cloyne/Castlemartyr combination reduced the lead to four points before yes that man Wall again steadied the ship. Naomh Padraig came again trying for that goal to change the match but to no avail. A free out for Aghada at the edge of the square .The Ref moves the Ball for dissent. Moves the ball again for more dissent suddenly Tony had a chance for a point, and take it he did. Then Just as the battle was at its height the Cloyne/Castlemartyr combination left the fray with according to the ref 11 minutes left on the clock (two on ours) Aghada looked on with disbelief . For the record Tony has scored 1-28 against Cloyne in championship
matchs the last few weeks (u21 , Junior B ) |

Aghada had no answer to the holders Erin’s
Own scoring only two points over the hour . While we started the better
we could not make any head way . it was in the 18th minute before we
had our first score from Derek Bowler . by this time Erin’s own
had racked up five points . Then in the 25th minute Brian Morrissey
got inside the full back only to drive the ball over the bar when he
had a goal at his mercy . sadly this turned out to be our last score

A great win but we had to do it the hard way 1-5
down after twenty minutes then Tony Wall goaled followed by a point
from Martin Day to bring us back into the game. The Saints hit another
point before Tony got his second major to leave the halt time score
1-6 to 2-1. After ten minutes no one could see this score, as we were
in disarray a few moves and some improvement from players ,we slowly
got into the game. The team started to settle and there was more of
a buzz about. On Resumption Declan Morrissey got a handily long-range goal to level the match. Martin Day gave our lads the lead and then it was tit for tat as both teams answered one another. Points from Morrissey, Shane Scanlon and two from Day left Aghada leading by two points with minutes on the clock . Now Naomh Padraig came at us but they found an excellent goal minder in Brian Wall making three great saves in a row. Try as they might the Cloyne/Castlemartyr side could only muster up a point to leave our lads winners by one Team Brian Wall, Damien Wall , Timmy Crowley , Peter Murphy Laim Morrissey , Laim Day , Declan Kearney Declan Morrissey (1-1) Mark Galvin Kevin McCarthy, Martin Day (0-4) Dominic Cashman Laim Curtin , Tony Wall (2-0) Shane Morrissey Subs used Shane Scanlon (0-1),Stephen Gilroy , Sean O’Donoghue , Richie Condon and Paudie Wall other subs Graham Curtin , Alan Creedan , |
Aghada lost this game to the Cloyne/ Castlemartyr
side in a highly entertaining game played in Cloyne
While the final score line was big this did not reflect the tone
of the game as the Saints got two goals at the death. Aghada lead
at halftime on the scoreline of 1-4 to 1-3. Fr. Denis, Finnbarr and
Michael will be happy enough with this outing, as there is more in
this team |
Our u21 team qualified for the final when they followed both the
senior and junior teams wins. We had to work hard for this Cloyne
got the dream start they wanted with a goal in the 2nd minute. Amazingly
Cloyne never scored again until 2 minutes of the second half. Aghada
found score hard to come by and it was just coming up to half time
when Aghada went in front for the 1st time following three points
from the best forward on view Brian Morrissey and one from JP O’Connor.
In between Cloyne had a great chance of a major when Goalie Brian
Wall Lahard made a great save after his bad kick out. (It turned out
he was injured and was replaced by Derrick Bowler) Brian Wall (Lahard) subs Derrick Bowler for Brian Wall Dave O’Keeffe for Tony Wall , Thomas O’Neill for Declan Morrissey, and Davie O’Hanlon for Colin Scanlon Alan Walsh(blood sub) for John Wall |
Aghada win first championship match of the year
Rostellan was looking its best for the visit of Glenville in this entertaining u21 Football game. Points from Tony Wall and JP O’Connor started the ball rolling with two fine points to leave Aghada leading 0-2 to 0-1 after the first quarter then in a five minute spell Aghada turned on the style scoring three points in a row to put a bit of light between the sides. Up to this Glenville looked the better side but there shooting was woeful. Approaching half time Glenville pointed John Connelly replied with the best score of the game when he pointed from fifty yards to leave the score at the turn over 0-6 to 0-3 On resumption Glenville played their best football scoring three points without reply. Again Glenville were guilty of squander for which Aghada made them pay. Stephen O’Keeffe steadied the ship with a fine point closely followed by another great point from Connelly . By now our lads had weathered the storm and when JP found the net Aghada were on there way . To their credit Glenville came back But Declan Morrissey had the last say when he pointed . Best for Aghada Eoin Cotter , Brendan Crowley and Connelly . This was a great win with so many injured (Thomas O’Neill, Derek Bowler and Davie Hanlon ) Team Brian Wall (Lahard) Alan Walsh , Colin Scanlon , Eoin Cotter John Wall , Brendan Crowley , Billy Hennessy Declan Morrissey (0-1) , John Connelly (0-2) Conor Hickey , Brian Wall (twin) (0-1) , Stephen O’Keeffe (0-2) Tony Wall (0-2) , JP O’Connor (1-1), Brian Morrissey Sub used Stephen Cashman for Alan Walsh |
