History was made tonight when the first ever
Championship match was played under lights in Rostellan. But alas
for Aghada Cloyne came out on top. Struck a mortal blow before the game started with Paul Crowley and Evan Kennedy unable to line out lads gave it all. Aghada started well but only gaining a point from a number of attacks. Then Last years all Ireland feile skills winner Padie O’Sullivan struck for the First of his four goals. Within minutes he had a second but how Aghada responded Goals from Dave Leahy and Cain Fleming the first of his three brought our lads back into the game. Aghada moved Cain McCarthy back to mark Padie but this had little effect then just before the short whistle Shane Scanlan got a great goal to leave the half time score 4-6 to 3-2 in Cloyne’s favour. On the resumption Aghada came more into the game with Scanlan now at full back Padie found ball scarce. This was our best spell when Fleming hit the net, two points followed and ‘twas all to play for. Then disaster a soft goal for Cloyne followed by another. The writing was on the wall but fair play to our lads they fought all the way. The loss of the two lads was eminence but Cloyne ran out wordy winners on the night Team John Browne.
