LEAGUE TABLE

Fri 15th Aug u14 football championship semi final

Ballinacurra 1-11 Aghada 0-12

All our games seem to be better than the last one and they also go down to the wire.
With two minutes of normal time left Michael Russell brought us within one point and a replay looked likely. Aghada missed their chance and the lads from Ballinacurra got the insurance point and sure enough ran out winners. Yet we had our chances and goals they say win matches well they did tonight anyway. With time running out on the first half Aghada got a penalty. Up stepped Cian Fleming but the goalie was equal to it. Ballinacurra attacked and got a 21 yards free. Up stepped their man and lobbed the ball over Andrews’s head for the lead on the short whistle. Aghada tried hard in the second half but could only get within one point of this good Ballinacurra team. A bit of luck on the day could have changed matters. Aghada can hold their heads high as they never gave up and every player gave of their best This is the end of this brave u14 team for this year but I have a feeling that this team will be back .

Mon 11th Aug u14 football Championship

Aghada 4-16 Glenville 3-7

Following their great win in the La Trattoria Cup last week .Aghada turned on the style to defeated Glenville in the first round of the championship in Lisgoold on Monday night with a good performance. Glenville were dominant in the early stages but found the scores hard to come by Aghada were first to score with a point from Cian Fleming quickly followed by a goal from Sean Harigan and another point from Michael Russell in our first three attacks. Aghada were 1-5 up before Glenville got their opening point and this was followed by a goal to which Harigan replied with another, half time score 2-8 to 1-3.

In the second half Aghada tacked on a few more points to consolidate their position with goals eventually coming from Fleming and Cian McCarthy. In the last quarter Aghada conceded a few easy goals but ran out comfortable winners.Good displays on the night by Conor Rice, Aidan O’Connell, Cian McCarthy, Ronan Sheehan and Katie Hennessy. Good contributions from Christopher Cashman, Willie O’Shea and Eoin Healy when introduced to the defence and James Daly and Aoife Cashman up front.

Sat 2nd Aug u14 football Aghada retain La Trattoria Cup

Ours lads and lassies got the better of Kiltha Óg and Bride Rovers to win out the La Trattoria cup for the second year running. Our captain Aidan O’Connell accepted the cup on behave of the team from Lynda Corigliano of the La Trattoria Restaurant Midleton

Aghada 4-3. Bride Rovers1-5.

Aghada retained the cup on Sat in Rostellan by beating Bride Rvs in a hard fought final Having earlier accounted for Kiltha Óg in the semi-final with a polished performance.Bride Rvs were fast off the mark going into a 2 point lead before Cian Fleming registered an excellent long range point from the left wing which was followed by Michael Hayes curling a
beauty inside the posts to level matters. Cian Higgins was next to finish off a good move for our first goal while Michael Russell who was a thorn in their side all day found the mark after receiving a good pass from Katie Hennessey.
On the resumption Bride Rvs were again first out of the blocks to tack on a couple of points before Sean Harrington settled the ship with a good goal but not for long as Bride Rvs responded with a goal to make it a 2 point game. Now our back line had to defend and this they did with Ronan Sheehan dealing admirably with anything that was thrown at him and Finnbarr Day inspirational at centre back. A long ball into the full forward line was gathered by Harrigan who rattled the net to settle matters and Higgins again finishing off a good move near the end to put a gloss on the score. This was a very workman like victory with Eoin Healy Brian McCarthy and Kenneth Higgins contributing well when they came on. Indeed with 23 players being used over the two games competition for places for the championship in a weeks time will be fierce.

Aghada 3-8. Kiltha Óg 0-5.

Aghada accounted for Kiltha Óg with a good team performance earlier in the day to secure their place in the above final. Corner backs Eoin Savage and William O’Shea put in good displays to cope with the opposition forwards as did Shane Wall and P Crowley in the wing back positions. Up front James Daly and Cathal Mulry played well with the latter getting a good goal and also Aoife Cashman making her mark when introduced up front.

Wed 30th April our U14 Football Aghada 3-5 Ballinacurra 3-2
This was our second outing in this league campaign and although under pressure towards the end of the game we just held on to record our first brace of points. Aghada had the better of the first half exchanges on a greasy surface to end the half five points to the good. On the resumption we continued to play good football at times but left in Ballinacurra to score a few goals left the result in doubt until the last few minutes . Best on the night were Michael Hayes in goals, Cain McCarthy, Pa Crowley in defence , Michael Browne ,James Daly and Cain Higgins in attack
