Aghada 0 -6 Youghal 2-8
|
On resumption Youghal added two more points before
Vincent Morrissey got Aghada’s only score of the half on
the 43minute . Aghada tried hard to get back on level terms but
to no avail and then on the 56th minute Youghal got the goal that
Aghada wanted. Youghal added two more points to run out handy
winners to meet Glanmire in the final next week.

After starting in whirlwind fashion blowing
the defending champions off the field , with seven magnificence
points from Mark Lewis , We started to wilt and when Erin’s
Own hit the front on the 53rd minute the writing was on the wall.
While Mark Lewis was giving his master class the Champions got a
handy goal that could or should have been a square ball. This brought
them into the game when they needed it most. Erin’s Own tacked
on two more points to lead for the first time as the half closed
. Aghada rallied again and minors from Michael Lewis and Stephen
O’Donoghue restored Aghada’s advantage at the short
whistle . Our two midfield men Declan Devoy (capt), Nigel Berry
cleaned out Erin’s Own to help to leave the half time score
0-9 to 1-5 Aghada started the second like the first scoring three points with out reply within 9 minutes . little did we know these were to be our last scores. Six unanswered points from last years champions did the trick and left Aghada thinking what could have been. Aghada led from the word go and in truth were only troubled just after half time when Lisgoold threw down the gauntlet. Sean O’Keeffe was the main stay of defence as was Colm O’Brien. Indeed the backline was rock solid with veteran Jim Motherway well ahead of the pack. It was young Declan Morrissey’s day scoring some wonderful points five in all from play and from dead balls. The full forward line of Tony Wall ,Niall Falvey and Dave O’Keeffe were in the thick of things. In the first half Dave was pulled down heading for goal but Falvey’s penalty was saved in the second half Falvey was himself pulled down and from the resulting penalty Steve O’Donoghue opted for a point which Aghada needed to steady the game. Just before that Sean O’Keeffe scored Aghada’s first point of the half when he took a great pass from Morrissey. O’Donoghue added another point before Morrissey got the last score to leave Aghada winners on the scoreline of 0-10 to 0-4 The half time score stood at 0-6 to 0-4 team Subs used Derrick Bowler for Lewis, Jason Ryan for

Tue 27th May JFL Aghada (2) 3-9 Carrigtwohill 3-12
Aghada travelled to Castlemartyr on Sunday morning the 25th of
May and came away with the 2 points. In an unusual first half
the sides finished level at the break on a scoreline of Aghada
0-9, Castlemartyr 3 - 0. The plan at half time was simple - stop
conceding goals!!. Aghada shored up the defence in the second
half and with Mark Lewis leading the line from centre forward,
kicked themselves into a commanding lead. By the time Lewis goaled
late in the second half to bring his own personal tally to 1-7,
the game was well over as a contest. Other good performances from
Darren Lee, Colm O'Brien and Stephen O'Keeffe helped Aghada to
a comfortable 1-19 to 3 - 4 victory. B.Hennessy(0-1),A.Berry,J.Wall(0-1), C.O'Brien(0-1),A.Cotter(0-1), Stephen O'Keeffe(0-2),Mk.Lewis(1-7),C.O'Shea(0-2), R.Lewis(0-1),S.O'Donoghue(0-2),B.Morrissey(0-1):Subs |
Our Junior B footballers started their campaign
with a big win over the Glenbower boys in a well-prepared Ballinacurra
Yet the opening play was all Glenbower until Aghada got a grip when John Murphy popped over a great point, closely followed by points from Dave O’Keeffe, Tony Wall and evergreen Richie Lewis. Killeagh came back at our lads and could have got two goals from three chances but with Jim Motherway, Sean O’Keeffe and Brian Wall in good form the Glenbower lads found scores hard to come bye. Then uncle Seanie found nephew Dave another point Tony Wall added a point followed by a major, Aghada were on their way points from Derrick Bowler Declan Morrissey and Dave O’Keeffe finished off the half Aghada 1-9 Glenbower 0-0 On the resumption Aghada were in complete control and when Steve
O’Donoghue found the net all the Aghada forwards had scored
.Two more points from Bowler followed and then Steve O’Donoghue
had the last say with a point. The Glenbower lads never gave up
and finished the game with three points as the game died |
Tue 13th May JFL Aghada (1) 1-11 Aghada (2) 0-10
| A fine evening a lovely field
and a big crowd who else but Aghada and Cloyne and what a game it
turned out to be. It had it all. Aghada got a dream start when after
seven minutes the Cloyne Goalkeeper dropped a harmless ball from
Mark Lewis and Christy O’Shea was on hand to boot it to the
net. Cloyne replied with a point from Mike Naughton. Cloyne now
applied pressure and it paid off when Ger Sweeney the ref gave a
Penalty to Cloyne, which to Aghada’s Delight went wide. Back
came Aghada with a brilliant point from Michael Lewis followed by
two points from frees by his brother Mark. This was Aghada’s
best spell we were in control all over and when Stephen O’Keeffe
added a point from play in the 21st minute things looked well. No
one told Cloyne that, back they came scoring two points from the
boot of James Lynch to leave the score at the short whistle Aghada
1-4 Cloyne 0-3. Mark Lewis opened Aghada’s account after 32 minutes when again he pointed a free. This turned out to be Aghada’s only score until the 24th Minute when again Mark pointed a dead ball. In between Cloyne chipped away at Aghada’s lead point by point .now it was Aghada’s turn to soak pressure. The full backline came into its, own Michael Morrissey was outstanding in the corner right through the game indeed Scanlon, and Lee were not far behind. Four points on the trot for Cloyne could we hold out A point in front and our backs to the wall Now was the time for hero’s and up they stepped , Young Blood to the fore . Billy Hennessy took the game by the horns and shook it cleaning up attack after attack . enter Sub Brian Morressy his running with the ball set up two chances of goals one for O’Keeffe but the Cloyne Keeper was equal as he was for the second when he saved from the Sub Conor Hickey would we ever score then another ball from Morrissey found Aidan Cotter (Goal), game set and match . Try as they might there was no way back for Cloyne and try the did .If Cloyne converted there changes when they were on top things could have been different While our young guns more than played their part so did the older lads Aidian Berry made a mockery of his years , as did Shorty . this sets up the u21 football semi final between the same Clubs next Sat in Midleton at 5-00pm be there Team Conor Motyer Darren Lee ,Colin Scanlon , Michael Morrissey John Wall , Aidan Berry , Billy Hennessy Nigal Berry , Declan Devoy Stephen O’Keeffe (0-1) Mark Lewis (0-3) Aidan Cotter (0-1) Christy O’Shea (1-0) , John Paul O’Connor , Mick Lewis (0-1) Subs Brian Morrissey for O’Shea , Conor Hickey for Mick Lewis Poor game by ref Ger Sweeney (Glenville) |

Aghada held Carrig to a single point at the
short whistle thanks in the main to Aidan Cotter’s (1-1) and
the strong wind. Richie Lewis added a point to leave the half time
score Carrignavar 0-7 Aghada 1-3. One had to be fearful for Aghada turning to play into a strong wind. Indeed that was the case as Carrig turned the screw on a young Aghada 3rd team . Carrig notched 2-7 to no reply in the second half to run out easy winners 2-14 to 1-3 . Still Carrig did not have it all their own way .Aidan Cotter, Declan Morrissey and Stephen Cashman showed well for Aghada . |
Aghada win 1st league match in a low scoring
game our lads accounted for Lisgoold in a match played under lights
in Rostellan last Fri night .A goal from Dave O'Keeffe was enough
to turn the tide. With points from Stephen O'Keeffe, Chris O'Shea
