Sat 15th Mar J H L Aghada 1-6 Carrigtwohill 1-4
Aghada got the new league campaign of to a perfect start when beaten
a fancied Carrigtwohill team in Carrig. In the first half you could
see that it was the first game of the year as it took our boys a
long time to settle into the game. Carrig started better and soon
found themselves a couple of point to the good before Aghada got
into there stride. A point on the run from Kieran O Conner seemed
to settle our lads down. Two more points from Richie Lewis followed
before a soft goal left the score at halftime Aghada 0-3 Carrig
1-3. In the second half our lads showed some of the form that won
us the league last year and started to dominate the match. A good
goal by Pearse O’Neill and some good points from Richie Lewis
saw Aghada run out 2 Point winners. Best for Aghada on the day were
Jim Motherway, Alan Devoy, Kieran O Conner Eoin Cotter, and Willie
O Donoghue. Team: Martin Day, David O Keeffe Paul O Donoghue Pa

Aghada recorded there second win in 2 games with an easy win over
Erins Own in Rostellan. Aghada were always in control and got of
to a flying start with a point from John Wall and a Ger Sheehan
Goal. With the Midfield of Kieran O Conner and Paul Kilbane dominating
it wasn't long before Aghada took complete control of the game with
further goals from Pierce O Neill and Ger Sheehan. Ger Sheehan showed
no ill effects from all those late night since the arrival of his
new baby by completing his Hat trick after 22 mins. Points from
Richie Lewis and Pearse O Neill left the score at Half time Aghada
4-6 Erins Own 0-2 and one of their points was scored by Aghada corner
Back Pat Cashman. With the game over Aghada made five changes at
half time which left Erins own back into the game but a tally of

easy winners and with a 100% record from 2 games. Team: Martin Day,

Fri 9th May JHL Aghada 4-13 Youghal 0-8
Aghada Maintain unbeaten start. Aghada fielding a strong time made
light work of Youghal in this league match played at the splendid
copper alley last Friday. Playing with the aide of a slight breeze
Aghada were quickly into there stride with points from Ritchie Lewis
Tony Wall and a rare Willie O Donoghue right handed point. Then
playing in a new position at top of the right Kieran O Conner got
into his stride setting up a goal each for Tony and Ritchie before
adding on 1-3 of his own and hitting the crossbar as well. This
left Aghada in complete control and with the half back line of Cathal
O Gorman Alan Devoy and John Murphy in top form Youghal never looked
like getting back into this game. Half Time Aghada 4-8 Youghal 0-5.The
Second half was a much quieter affair with Aghada taking their foot
of the pedal which left Youghal back into the Game but the Back
line stood firm and managed to restrict Youghal to only a few points.
Points from Fergal Condon, Kieran O Conner, John Connolly, John
Wall, and Derek Bowler saw Aghada run out easy winners and keep
their 100% record in the League. Team: Martin Day, Brendan Flaherty,

Tue 10th June JHL Aghada 1-17 Ballinacurra 0-8
Aghada's Run Continues.
Aghada's second string took on Ballinacurra on Tuesday night in
Rostellan. Despite the heavy rain our second pitch was in great
condition and had a perfect sod for hurling. We got off to a very
slow start and were lucky to be just 3 points down after the first
10 minutes as we seemed to be stuck in first gear. With the half
back line of Eoin Cotter, John Murphy and Cathal O'Gorman coming
more into the game we started to get more on top and with some good
points from play from Tony Wall, Darren Lee, James O'Connell and
the ever reliable Richie Lewis we finished the half strongly and
at the break we led 0-7 to 0-6.Injury and illness meant a reshuffle
with Alan Devoy coming on at Centre back for John Murphy and Mark
Lewis coming on midfield with Paul Kilbane going to wing back. With
the advantage of the wind we soon got on top on some fine points
from play from Derek Bowler, Darren Lee-2 and a monster point from
Paul Kilbane saw us take control of the game. A goal near the end
from Tony Wall after a Richie free was blocked gave us a rather
flattering score line at the end.
Team. Fergal Condon, David O'Hanlon, Paul O'Donoghue, Brendan Flaherty,
Cathal O'Gorman John Murphy Eoin Cotter, Paul Kilbane ( 0-1) Alan
Walsh, Derek Bowler (0-1), Darren Lee(0-3), John Wall, Tony Wall
(1-2), Richie Lewis (0-8), James O'Connell (0-2). Subs: Alan Devoy

Wall, David O'Keeffe for Dave O'Hanlon and Tom O'Neill for Cathal
O'Gorman.
Mon 16th June JHL Aghada 3-12 Killeagh 1-8
Aghada extend unbeaten run. On Monday night Aghada’s second
string hurlers travelled to Killeagh for the top of the table league
clash. On the perfect night for hurling Aghada got of to a bright
start with a Tony Wall goal. A Derek Bowler point made it 1-1 in
the opening minutes before a soft goal let Killeagh back into the
game. This seem to wake our lads up and our half back line of Paul
Kilbane the returning Alan Devoy and the ever reliable Cathal O
Gorman meant Aghada started to regain control. A spectacular goal
from Kieran O Conner got us back on track and we never looked back
from there. Further points from Derek Bowler and Tony Wall and a
John Wall goal left the score at half time Aghada 3-6 Killeagh 1-4.The
second half was a much quieter affair with the match more or less
over as a contest and points in the second half from Tony Wall Willie
O Donoghue James O Connell Daren Lee and 2 from Kieran O Conner
who seems to be revelling in his new role in the full forward line
left the final score 3-12 to 1-8.Best on the night were Tony Wall
Kieran O Conner and Paul Kilbane who Played through the pain barrier.

Fri 25th July Junior B hurling championship Aghada 3-15 Carrigtwohill
1-6
Aghada found the going tough for the first twenty minutes but then
in a glorious spell we pulled away to lead at the brake 1-9 to 1-3.
Carrig were first to score on the resumption, but Aghada hit back
hard and fast scoring two goals to put the game out of Carrigs reach.
Aghada were now hurling with class none more so then Alan Devoy
and John Murphy while up front Carrig had no answer to Kieran O’Connor
Darren Lee and Tony Wall. A good win with Aghada just about doing
enough to make a date with our friends and neighbours Cloyne in
the next round on the 14th Aug.

Sun 27th July JHL Aghada 1-11 Watergrasshill 0-5
Junior Hurlers remain unbeaten and Gain Promotion. Aghada's junior
hurlers rounded off the weekend in fine style by beating Watergrasshill
on Sunday night to gain promotion to the first division. Aghada
fielding an under strength side due to Senior football commitments
got off to a perfect goal when a long ball from Darren Lee managed
to find its way to the back of the net. Some good point’s
form Derek Bowler and Richie Lewis saw Aghada go into a 1-3 to no
score lead after a quarter of an hour. With Richie giving a fine
display of free taking the half time score was Aghada 1-6 Watergrasshill
0-4. The second half was a quieter affair with both defences on
top and Richie's free taking kept Aghada in control. Near the end
two points from John Wall and a wonder point from Sub Jim Motherway
meant Aghada ran out comfortable winners in the end. This result
sets us up with a league final against Killeagh, which will be played
later on in the year. Congratulations to all involved through out
the year. Team: Martin Day, Dave O Hanlon, Paul O Donoghue, Pa Sisk,

Thur. 14th Aug Junior B hurling championship Aghada 1-11 Cloyne
2-8
Another night of drama yes, another goal in injury time this time
for Cloyne to draw the game
Cloyne started the better although William O’Donoghue opened
the scoring with a DJ Carey like point. Cloyne responded with six
points in quick succession. Richie Lewis’s three points keep
us in the game. Then on the 21st minute JP O’Connor burst
into the game with a fine point Then Lewis levelled the game with
another dead ball before Cloyne replied from a placed ball to leave
the half time score 0-7 to 0-6. Strange as it seems Cloyne were
not to score again until the 53rd minute when they got a soft major,
After Aghada had gone five points clear thanks to Tony Walls 1-2
and JP’s great point. Things did not always look as rosy,
When Richie Lewis was sent off just after the start of the second
half we looked in trouble. But it was Aghada who responded best.
Aghada suddenly started to hurl and Cloyne had no answer. But like
the team they are Cloyne hit back with the afore mentioned goal
added a point before Wall made it a goal game as time ran out from
placed balls. Then came the drama the ball was lobed into the Aghada
square and from the resulting melee the Cloyne boys got the ball
into the net. The ref Kevin Hennessy signalled a free out only to
change his mind and gave a throw in from which Cloyne goaled to
level the match and another day out.

Sun 7th Sept J B H Championship semi final Aghada 1-5 Fr. O'Neills
0-9
Aghada fail for third year in a row to make final
Having played so well last week against Cloyne, we failed to rise
to the same standards against a dogged and determined Fr. O’Neills
side in this rain drenched match in Shanagarry
O’Neill’s opened the scoring with a point from a placed
ball on the 7th minute. Tony Wall replied with three frees on the
10th, 14th and 17 minute to open a lead. This lead was short lived
as O’Neills came storming back into the game scoring four
points in a row. Then the O’Connor’s stuck a brilliant
pass from Johno found Kieran and bangs a great goal for Aghada to
lead just on halftime. O’Neills hit back for the equaliser
as the short whistle sounded to leave the halftime scores 1-3 to
0-6.
Aghada broke from the blocks scoring two points again from Wall
within 4 minutes of the restart (little did we think that this was
to be our last score). By the 44th minute O’Neill’s
tacked on three frees in a row to lead again. Amazingly there was
to be no more scores. 3 minutes later an O’Neill’s man
got his marching orders yet we were not able to capitalise on this.
Try as we might we could not get that vital score and when Aghada’s
man of the match Cathal O’Gorman got a chance 7 minutes into
injury time it looked good. If any man deserved a point he did but
it went inches wide. The Aghada forwards gave away to many soft
frees on the night to leave the O’Neill’s boys free
shots out. Paul O’Donoghue got the line with normal time up.
