| Our bad run in finals continues, when we lost the u 16 football
final to a strong St. Catherines team last Mon night. It could
have been so different had lady luck played her part. Aghada started
well with Cormac Falvey outstanding at full back. Shane Morressy
was playing the game of his life in the corner. As he cleared
another ball he got head butted which left him with a deep cut
and he was unable to carry on. As the Ref(who had a good match)missed
the incident the St. Catherine's player went unpunished. It was
to have a big bearing on the game at a later stage. Scores were
hard to come by. The Saints opened the scoring with a point after
10 minutes and it was another five before Aghada opened their
account when Kenneth O'Brien pointed a free. Shortly after this
St. Catherines added their second and last point of the half.
This was Aghada's best spell and how the ball kept out of the
net no one will ever know, but out it stayed. On the 28th minute
Kenneth pointed another free just before Padie Wall scored a mighty
point from play to give us the lead for the first and only time.
At the short whistle Aghada lead by the score of 0-3 to 0-2 having
played against the wind. Even Kennedy Damien Wall , Cormac Falvey , Shane Morressy Alan Morressy , Peter Murphy , Richard Condon Declan Morressy , Laim Day Shane Scannell (0-1) , Steven Gilroy , Séan O' Donoghue Padie Wall (0-1), Damien O'Brien , Kenneth O'Brien (0-4),

| Our lads started at lighting pace and completely
out played Killeagh Ita's. Padie Wall opened with a mighty point
Declan Morressy and Kenneth O'Brien added one each before Padie
found the net At this stage we were playing great football with
some great inter passing and movement off the ball. Kenneth O'Brien
popped over two more points and Shane Scannell finished the first
half with a fine long range point to leave the half time score1-7
to Killeagh's 0-3.
Whatever the Killeagh Ita's selectors said at half time it worked.
They had three points on the board in as many minutes and still
they came point after point our backs were to the wall now. Suddenly
they were only one point behind and only for some great defending
by Cormac Falvey, Shane Morressy, goalkeeper Even Kennedy and
specially Alan Morressy who had a great game at half back combined
with poor shooting by the Killeagh forwards kept our goal intact.
Another Killeagh Point. Level, was Ballymacoda going to be our
graveyard again . Another point Killeagh Ita's lead for the first
time. Eight points with out reply where were Aghada gone?. 14
minutes left a seven-point lead gone. The Game was by now been
played at a frantic pace Aghada attack Padie wins the ball YES,
goal, back in front. Kick out Kenneth catches the ball, point.
Killeagh attack again Falvey to the rescue clears the ball Graham
Curtin shoots wide still only three point's ahead five minutes
left could we hold out. Declan Morressy wins the ball feeds Kenneth
'POINT' the insurance, yes time ticking slowly Killeagh mount
one more raid O' NO Goal. Point in the difference come ref the
time is up shout the sideline. Even placed the ball a long kick
out Deckie wins it and what a sweet sound the final whistle made.
Damien Wall , Cormac Falvey , Shane Morressy Alan Morressy , Peter Murphy , Richard Condon Declan Morressy(0-2) , Laim Day Shane Scannell (0-1) , Steven Gilroy , Séan O' Donoghue Padie Wall (2-1), Damien O'Brien , Kenneth O'Brien (0-5),

| Aghada Draw u16 football Semi final with Killeagh
Ita's Aghada 0-8 Killeagh Ita's 0-8 In a low scoring, tight game our lads came back from three points down to draw this game. Padie Wall playing at centre back got injured with 10 minutes remaining and his was moved to corner forward from where he lead the charge with two great points . His first was outstanding and it had the effect of driving our lads on and his second drew the game for us .In between points from Sub Shane Scannell and Kenneth O'Brien lead to a pulsating last few minutes when Killeagh threw ever thing at us only for Damin Wall to catch a ball out of the clouds and brake up a Killeagh Itas attack the ref then blew his whistle. We could have won this match in the end but over all the draw was a great result because half way in the second half the Killeagh Ita's lads had control of the field . Aghada again brought the sprit into play. None more so than Even Kennedy in goals ,Padie Wall at both half back and up front , Richie Condon covered great ground as did Séan O'Donoghue. Damin Wall was a rock at corner back. so now for next Monday night at 6-00pm Team Even Kennedy Damien Wall , Cormac Falvey , Shane Morressy Peter Murphy , Padie Wall (0-2), Richard Condon Declan Morressy , Steven Gilroy Laim Day (0-1),, Kenneth O'Brien (0-4), Séan O' Donoghue Laim Curtin , Damien O'Brien , Alan Morressy |
U16 FOOTBALL LEAGUE FINAL
AGHADA 2-6 CASTLEMARTYR 1-8
| Yes our lads pulled out all the stops to win
this game by the narrowest of margins. Castlemartyr started the
better team and could have been out of sight but for poor shooting
and great defending by Aghada. Indeed Even Kennedy in goal made
a fantastic save at one end Kenneth O'Brien made a run at the other
end his shot was also blocked but Séan O'Donoghue was on
hand to belt the ball home. To leave the game level at the short
whistle which we hardly deserved. The second half was a different
affair as Aghada woke up to the fact that we could win this. Padie
Wall now at centre back was a commanding figure as was Steven Gilroy
at Centre field. With Declan Morressy scoring a point for play we
were now on top. Castlemartyr fought hard and went ahead again.
Kenneth O'Brien kept us in touch with his free taking, and when
full forward Damin O'Brien rattled the net we were on our way. Now
it was Aghada's turn to soak up pressure with Shane Morressy fairing
well at corner back. Hold on we did for a hard-earned victory |
