Sat 2nd Nov u15 hurling championship Final

Aghada 3-7 Castlelyons 0-3

our lads win the Double

Way back in March these lads won the football title, and now in Nov. they add the hurling
.A wet and windy Rostellan was the venue for the U-15 East Cork Hurling final between Aghada and Castlelyons on last Saturday November 2nd.After some quick pre-match drainage work (thanks to all who helped ) both teams took to the field and loosing the toss Aghada faced into the rain and strong wind. The first half saw both teams hurling well right from the throw in but it was Aghada who proved the strongest with an early goal and some fine individual points before match referee Billy Cody blew the short whistle with Aghada leading 1-5 to 0-1.
Your money would have been on Aghada as they turned to play with the aid of a strong wind, however all credit to Castlelyons who pressed forward against the Aghada rear guard, but try as they might could not break through this very strong defense. Aghada settled again and scored some fine long range points despite the worsening conditions. The home side then put the game beyond Castlelyons reach as their consistently dangerous attack notched up some very quick goals and points to further extend their lead and run out comfortable winners on the day. all credit is due to this side as they showed great spirit and heart all through this very tough championship. With one change from the semi final Even Kennedy starting at midfield and while Séan O'Donoghue started at full forward with Michael O'Neill losing out, however he was to come on as a sub later in the game as did Alan Creedan. This was a great way to bring down the curtain on a mighty season When Eammon O'Neill of the East Cork Board presented the trophy to team capt Richie Condon

on 28 Oct u15 hurling championship

Aghada 1-11 Castlemartyr 2-4

the u15 double is still on having won the first competition of the year

back in March can we win the Hurling in Nov.?

The last Monday in Oct and we make another final our ninth final this year.

But did we make it hard. We started well but found scores hard to come by until Paudie Wall pointed in the seventh minute. The lead did not last long when Castlemartyr got inside the Aghada backline for a goal against the run of play. While at the other end the Castlemartyr goalie was on top form making some great saves from Wall and Alan Morressy. Slowly we got on top with Steven Gilroy hurling well at fullback Kenneth O'Brien showed well at halfback. But Séan O'Donoghue did the main work at centre field. Paudie added another point before Alan Morressy final shook off his marker and put over the equalising score. Cain Fleming the youngest man on the field at 12 years old showed his class and had his man in all sorts of bother. At the short whistle the score stood at Aghada 0-3 Castlemartyr 1-0
Again Aghada started the better when Morressy and O'Donoghue (now operating at full forward) pointed. Like the first half the lead was short lived when Castlemartyr banged in a major followed by a point. By now the match was at fever pitch good hard clean hurling. Morressy steadied the ship with a point. Castlemartyr hit back with two points to go three points clear entering the last quarter. Then O'Donoghue scored a mighty point off his left hand. Back came Castlemartyr to restore their advantage. Paudie and Alan pointed to leave just the minimum between the sides with five minutes left on the clock. Then disaster John McCarthy gets sent off for two yellow cards and Castlemartyr get a free fifty yards out. Yes the free falls short Gilroy clears the ball David Leahy add to it now the ball is bobbing around the Castlemartyr goal mouth up steps O'Donoghue Goal the lead again now Aghada turn on the style Crowley, Kidney and Condon cleared great ball. Wall points and then Morressy added the insurance point to leave our lads the winners by 1-11 to 2-4

Sat 19th Oct u15 hurling Championship

Aghada 6-7 Fr. O'Neills 2 -7

This was a great win for Aghada in the last hurling championship of the year. Alan Morressy proved a handful for the O'Neill's lads up front. He was a danger every time he got the ball. While at the other end of the field young Finnbarr Day had a mighty game in goals. Richie Condon, Séan O'Donoghue , Paudie Wall, Steven Gilroy, Even Kennedy and John McCarthy were impressive for the winners. We are meeting Castlemartyr in the semi final next Monday in Castlemartyr
