| At the 1st time of asking Aghada won the LA
TRATTORIA CUP when they defeated Castlemartyr, Ballinacurra and
Glanmire B to become worthy winners of the fine Cup sponsored by
the Corigliano's. All the games were tight affairs with Aghada winning
only in the last few minutes. With both Glanmire and Aghada going
into the final unbeaten having playing out a draw in the opening
game the final was always going to be tight. Glanmire opened the
scoring when they got a fine goal and they added another point before
Shane Scannell replied with a goal. Glanmire tacked on a point before
they hit another major. Our lads hit back with an Alan Creedan goal
and a Cian Fleming point to leave the half time score 2-2 to Aghada's
2-1. We took the lead with two fine points by Fleming but the Glanmire lads hit back with a point. Michael Russell but Aghada in the lead again when he tapped over a point. Glanmire replied with two points to lead going into the final few minutes. Glanmire repelled attack after attack until Russell busted the net with one of the last shots of the game so to Aghada the spoils and all that was left was for Alan Creedan to lift the cup Panel Evan Kennedy, Shane Wall , Finnbarr Day, Catriona Day, Conor Rice, Dave Condon, Emer O'Donovan , Paul Crowley Cain Fleming , Alan Creedan (Capt) , Aidian O'Connell , Dave Leahy , Michael O'Neill , Michael Russell, Cain Higgins , Kenneth Higgins, William O'Shea, Pa Crowley, Séan Hargan ,William O'Shea, Shane Scanlan |
| in a mighty game of football we
had to give way to the boys from the west . In truth we could have
won this but we were unlucky. Shane Scannell was the outstanding
player on the field closely followed by Paul Crowley .The Glan na
Gael lads owned the ball in the first Quarter and only for bad shooting
and great defending by the full back line of Colman Hayes , Finnbar
Day, Sean Hargan and David Condon in goals our goose was cooked
. With Alan Creedan and Dave Leahy trying hard in the half forward
line.Shane Wall and Michael O'Neill started to make head way up
front and when Wall was fouled for a spotter up stepped Scannell
and he made no mistake to leave the score at half time 1-2 to the
Gael's 1-5. On the resumption Wall goalied Scannell and O'Neill
added points and suddenly we were in front but we could not keep
it up despite a great penalty save from Condon; team |
