AGHADA HURLING AND FOOTBALL CLUB

Fr. O'Neills were in a different class having some outstanding players especially their Capt Séan Harrington who bored holes in out defence. Yet we started he better a lovely point from Capt Aidian O'Connell and with in a minute Kenneth Higgins had the ball in the O'Neill net. It wasn't long before O'Neills hit back and they were level on the first quarter. Then Harrington was brought down in the square and he made no mistake with the penalty Fr.O'Neills tacked on three more points before Cian Fleming scored for Aghada to leave the score at the short whistle 2-4 to 1-2
Again Aghada had first blood when Fleming pointed but this was where it stopped. O'Neills took over and gave us a lesson in football. While our lads gave their best O'Neills were a grade above us .
That is now our fifth final in a row that we have lost this year . indeed for some of the players it was their fourth one . Still hope springs eternal

Yes into another final. A great team display, Michael Russell drawing first blood followed by a Cian Fleming free put Aghada two points in front. Back came Ballinacurra with two points. Then Aidan O'Connell in a majestic five-minute period put the game beyond Ballinacurra with a goal and a point. O'Connell was very unlucky not to have added another goal. With Cian McCarthy now at the centre of defence Aghada were in command as Finnbarr Day, Rohan Sheehan and Séan Hargan were in top form in the fullback line. While Katie Hennessy was a content thorn in Ballinacurra's side. Fleming added another point to cancel out Ballinacurra's one to leave the score at the short whistle 1-4 to 0-3.
On the resumption Fleming hit a great goal. Ballinacurra replied with two points but again Fleming was equal to the task. Now it was Aghada's turn to soak up the pressure as the village boys came hard at us. They met with an in form Michael Hayes in goal who made some great saves. The afore mentioned Fullback line was now stretched to the limit but they held out. Aghada were glad to here the long Whistle

The outstanding feature of this match was the scoring power of Cian Fleming (3-4). Michael Russell ably backed him up scoring (2-1). While we ran out handy winners it was not so rosy at half time when we lead by only one point 1-4 to 1-5.
The introduction of Katie Hennessy after half time made a difference. Finnbarr Day was by now in full control of the backline and Cian McCarthy playing in his first match was outstanding when he moved to centre back. .The two Higgins brothers Cian and Kenneth added a point each to ensure that we play Ballinacurra next Wed night at 6-00pm in Rostellan in the semi final
