Sunday 20th Jan Aghada 0-6 Clyda Rovers 0-6
A brave second half comeback by Aghada saw them take a share of
the spoils in difficult playing conditions Trailing Clyda at half
time by five points to one the Aghada players put their shoulders
to the wheel to grind out a draw and in truth should have won it,
But for some costly misses in front of goal.
Shrewd positional changes of Declan Devoy to midfield and Kenneth
O' Keeffe to wing back,
Along with the force full play of Eoin O' Neill, William O' Donoghue
and Nigel Berry, The attaching qualities of Young Brendan Crowley

The introduction of James O' Connell gave impetus to the attack
along with an O' Connell point, two from Trigger, two from Brendan
Flaherty now operating from centre forward, With one for Steven

the posts giving a commanding performance and keeping his goal intact

10/2/02 MUNSTER SENIOR LEAGUE Aghada 2-9 St. Finbarr’s 1-8
Our lads, by virtue of their four point’s victory over the
Barrs have almost secured a quarter- final spot. Barrs had the wind
in the first half but failed to build a significant lead which proved
their undoing, A Jim O'Donoghue goal giving them a1-4 to 0-4 lead
at half time. Aghada were far more economical in the second half
but some fine points from Fionn Murray kept the Barrs in front before
two goals in five minutes from a Brendan O'Flaherty penalty and
James O'Connell gave the seasiders victory .that gives Aghada seven
points out of a possible eight . a good result for manager Adian

24/2/02. Revenge for last year’s championship defeat Aghada
1-9 Youghal 1-6
Aghada gained revenge for last summers championship defeat by Youghal
in a game that they lead throughout. Aghada opened with points from
James O'Connell and Steven O'Donoghue as Youghal struggled against
the wind. Paul O'Driscoll and Declan Gleeson managed points for
the visitors but with Kieran O'Conner in super form, Aghada held
a five point half time advantage. Youghal responded immediately
with points from John Paul Joyce and Micheál Ó Laocha.
Aghada's second half sub Kenneth O'Keeffe curbed the youghal onslaught
with a well taken goal. Ó Laocha hit a late goal, but it
was not enough to stop the home side winning scorers for Aghada

Sunday 10th March Senior Football Aghada 3-9 Douglas 2-7
Aghada's unbeaten run continued, due in the main to rather fortuitous
first half in which they struck for three goals in this tie at Rostellan.
Douglas led in the early stages with points from the in form John
Farrell, but then Aghada poached their goals from James O'Connell,
Kenneth, and Trevor O'Keeffe. Douglas countered with a goal from
Gearóid O'Leary but still trailed at the break. at the end
of the third Aghada introduced Mark Lewis whose free tacking helped
extend their lead. Gary McLaughlin and Farrell obliged with Douglas
points yet Aghada kept in front with scores from Melvin, O'Neill
and O'Connell Douglas had a consolation goal again from O'Leary
but it was to little to late. Team & Scorers S. O’Connell,

Aghada complete their league program before their Championship game
against Clonakilty with a fine win over the north Cork boys. This
win leaves Aghada unbeaten this year in both the Munster League
and the Kelleher Shield. Well done to all involved
Sat the 13th April S F C Clonakilty 3-3 Aghada 1-8
What a time to lose you first match of the year. a match we could
and should have won. A match riddled with missed chances on both
sides but mostly on ours. Here is the Examiner headline
Griffin magic fires Clonakilty to one point victory over luckless
Aghada Magical moments from the mercurial Pádraig Griffin
laid the foundations for Clonakilty exciting one point victory over
luckless Aghada. Griffin unleashed the full range of his dazzling
skills after Aghada jumped into an early two point lead, courtesy
of Rohan Dwane and Trevor O'Keeffe. Gaining possession on the right
wing in the 14th minute Griffin embarked on a daring solo run and
drew goalkeeper Shane O'Connell before scoring a superb goal. Three
minutes later the eager beaver Clon full forward picked out his
bother Mark with a peach of a pass and after he was fouled by O’Connell,
left half forward Colin O'Donovan slotted the ball home from the
penalty spot. these scores were crucial in light of the fact that
Aghada completely dominated the midfield exchanges with both Dwane
and O'Neill practically owning the ball but failure to capitialalise
on a number fine goal scoring opportunities left the east Cork Men
trailing by 2-1 to 0-4 at half time.
Although Clon were denied a their goal when a fierce drive from
Conrad Murphy came off the underside of the crossbar, Aghada applied
strong pressure after the resumption and two points in quick succession
from James O'Connell, who excelled when moved to full forward ,
left the bare minimum between the sides. However, just as the point
when this tie was truly in the melting pot, Aghada's goal scoring
deserted them. and Clon grimly held on to their slender lead. Then
calamity befell Aghada when O'Connell misjudged a high delivery
for centre forward Donal Lyons and allowed the ball to drop into
an empty net. The drama didn't end there. In Injury Aghada were
awarded a penalty. Centre forward JP O'Connor's conversion attempt
in the fading light appeared to go wide. But after consultations
with his umpires referee Denis Linehan signalled a goal -apparently
because the ball had gone through a hole in the net. However this
was Aghada's last shot of the dice

In this top of the table clash the city boys got the better of our
lads mainly due to a poor ten minute spell midway through the second
half when Aghada conceded 2-2 in as many minutes. To our credit
we came back but instead of putting the ball over the bar we went
for goals when a draw was there for the taken. With this been our
last match before championship the selectors learned a lot from
this game.

Aghada bowed out of the senior championship after a spirited show
against a very good U.CC. side. Scoring only two points in the second
half to UCC's 1-6 tells the story. yet we were well in this match
up to 5 minutes to go when the College boys tacked on 1-1 in the
closing minutes. And if Pearse O' Neill found the net when he went
on a blistering run that brought him to the edge of the square,
only for his shot to run across the goal and go wide. The first
half was all so different with some great football .Mark Lewis won
a free on center field, Trevor O'Keeffe took a quick free James
O'Connell won the ball and found the back of the net. Aghada looked
good after that it was point for point and the half time score settled
at 1-7 to 1-6 against our lads. On the night Aghada would have bt.

Thur 12th Sept Senior Football Kelleher Shield
Aghada's senior football team travelled to Blackpool to play St.
Nicks on the 12/09/02 for their final Kelleher Shield game and came
away with the 2 points. Aghada who for the night were under the
sole stewardship of Jim Motherway, started quickly with 3 pts from
James O'Connell. Then corner back Kieran O'Connor popped up in the
oppositions square to riffle home a cracking goal. St. Nicks responded
well however with some great scores of their own and the half time
score was Aghada 1-7 V St. Nicks 1-3. The other Aghada scores coming
from Pearse O’Neill (2 pts), Michael Lewis and Dave Creedon.
Aghada turned to play with the wind in the 2nd half and upped the
Tempo considerably Further goals from Dave Creedon and Pierce O'Neill
and
another point from "the attacking corner back" Kieran
O 'Connor helped Aghada to a comfortable win on a scoreline of 3-18

Aghada playing with the wind in the first half started quickly with
2 points in 2 mins both for James
O'Connell. The remainder of the half was a tit for tat affair with
Castlehaven scoring 4 points in reply to 5 points from Aghada. 2

throughout at midfield. Davy Creedon and Ger Melvin scored 1 each
while James got his 3rd on the stroke of half time. Half-time score
Aghada 0-7 Castlehaven 0-4. A well worked move resulted in a great
point for Kenneth O'Keeffe at the start of the second half. The

a great goal after good build up by John O'Connor. It was now 1-8
