Billy Hennessy gets Red card
Aghada advance to the next round of the minor championship when they
had a good win over Castlelyons in Lisgoold. But at some cost When
centre back Billy Hennessy got the line when a melee broke out near
the end. Billy will now miss the next round against Bride Rovers next
on Tue 23rd again in Lisgoold .He should be back for the intermediate
Championship in six weeks time. Aghada were the better team true out
leading by eight points at one stage but left Castlelyons back into
the game before winning by only two points, Tony Wall had his scoring
shoes on when he notched up 1-6. While Cork minor Footballer Ger Hurley
scored 0-5 as did Cork Minor Hurling panellist Brian Morrissey to
leave the full time score Aghada 1-16 Castlelyons 3-8 team? Martin

Feast of goals as Minors reach final Stand in centre back Steven
O'Keeffe had the game of his life, when he commanded the centre
of the defence with speed and pure hurling ability, He was a joy
to watch. With Timmy Crowley and Damien Wall behind him our Backline
was rock solid. While up front young Alan Morrissey followed in
his brothers footsteps and banged in a hat trick of goals (how long
before we will see the three Morrissey brothers in the full line
at Intermediate level?). Tony Wall added two goals while Brian Morrissey
and Mark Gavin added one each Team Martin Day Liam Morrissey , Timmy

Sat 3rd Aug Minor Hurling Championship Final Aghada 2-11 Castlecurra
2-10
WHAT A COME BACK Down 2-7 to 0-5 at half time what chance? Read
on.
What did Devoy Say at the half time talk because with in five minutes
Steven O'Keeffe landed a long range point from a free and man of
the match Brian Morrissey had a goal; Ger Hurley added a point before
Castlecurra replied. The 1st half was so different with the Castlecurra
lads winning at all parts of the field apart for Brian Morrissey
at full forward we were making no head way Aghada were glad of the
half time brake. Young Cormac Falvey started the revival when he
made some vital clearances. Conor Hickey at right half now getting
a supply of ball came thundering into the game. Brian Morrissey
and Tony Wall now operating on the forty took the game by the scruff
of the neck and when Wall scored a great opportunist goal on the
fifty minute there was only one team in it .The younger Morrissey
Alan Added a point to leave the minimum between the teams . the
Castlemartyr and Ballinacurra lads came back with a point; this
was to be their last score. Wall and Morrissey added a point each
to level the match and it fell to Declan Morrissey to hit over the
winner. team Martin Day, Damien Wall, Timmy Crowley, Liam Morrissey,

Sat 5th Oct Minor Hurling County Championship Aghada 6-14 Blarney
1-0
Stroll in the park for Aghada. After waiting eight weeks for this
match it turned out to be one of the greatest mismatch ever, Aghada
had only to turn up to win this match. The Blarney score came about
with seven minutes to go from a semi penalty. Still Aghada can take
a lot from this. But Shamrocks will be a stiffer test in the semi
final on Sunday the 20th Oct in Cobh

Morrissey’s save the day. Aghada draw with the last puck of
the game Brian scored the ten points while Alan scored the goal.
It was a day for ducks not hurlers yet we had to play a county semi
final. Playing against a gale force wind and rain Aghada were up
against it We started well and made a few attacks but then a harmless
ball found its way to the Aghada net after three minutes. With in
two minutes Brian Morrissey hit over a point this was to be Aghada's
last point until the twenty third minute when again Morrissey was
the provider. In between Shamrocks added four points. As the half
came to a close Shamrocks added two more as did Morrissey to leave
the score at the short whistle 1-7 to 0-4. A lead Aghada could live
with turning around with the wind to their backs
With in one minute of the resumption Martin Day made a save and
as he made his way out he fouled the ball. Then some one mouthed
and the Ref gave the free in front of the goals on the twenty-one.
Goal for Shamrocks. Was their any way back? Brian hit two more points
and then on the thirty ninth minute his brother Alan scooped for
the all important goal .yet Aghada where still five points in arrears.
Another ten minutes passed before Aghada got an other score when
again Brian scored a point .now Shamrocks came at Aghada and try
as they might the could not score . Half backs and men of the match
Cormac Falvey and Liam Day (both only sixteen) where now well on
top. The switch of the full back Timmy Crowley and Bill Hennessy
paid deviants. Aghada where by now well on top but had we enough
time to get a result? Four minutes left still three points down.
Brian takes a 65 point. Three minutes left could we do it? An other
frees from Brian another point. Shamrocks attack Martin clears again
Brian gathers POINT. LEVEL Is there time to win the game. David
O'Keeffe got a belt and was down the Ref decided that enough was
enough and blew the whistle. Some come back and we live to fight
another day Team Martin Day, Damien Wall, Timmy Crowley, Liam Morrissey,

Sun 10th Nov County Minor Hurling Final Aghada 2-8 St. Martins 3-8
(Kilworth - Araglen)
While we played very well in the first half things did not go right
in the second half. Brian Morrissey opens the scoring with a fine
point in the third minute. St. Martins hit back with two points.
A long range Morrissey free floated into the square was his younger
brother Alan latched on to it and stuck it in the back of the net.
Aghada where now under intense pressure with Stephen O'Keeffe Playing
at Halfback clearing ball after ball while in side him Damien Wall
was doing his bit. For Once O'Keeffe's man got free and gathered
a pass at the edge of the square as he tried to shoot he was fouled
up stepped the centre back goal the lead again for the Kilworth
lads. Brian Morrissey was by now tormenting the Saints defence with
some fine runs. As we entered the second quarter we were at our
best Tony Wall gathered a ball on the twenty-one and he found the
older Morrissey with a brilliant pass with which Brian rattled the
net. Brian Added three more points to the Saints two to leave the
score at the short whistle 1-4 to 2-4
Araglen started the second half in blistering fashion when they
had two points before Morrissey opened Aghada's account in the ninth
minute. by now Morrissey was finding the going tough with the centre
field man now marking him. After a very slow start Ger Hurley came
into the game and got two great points within a minute to stretch
Aghada's lead to four points entering the last quarter. The Saints
had the Aghada goal under mighty pressure with Martin Day clearing
ball after ball off his line and then on the 16th Minute the Saints
found the net when the Centre forward now playing in corner was
all alone on the edge of the square when his team mate found him
with a pass. Now the tension rose. Then two minutes later the Saints
drew level when Thomas Twomey pointed a free. Aghada threw every
thing into attack but no score came. Indeed no side could get the
upper hand and one felt the next score would win it and indeed it
did when on the 25th minute Twomey got a carbon copy of the middle
goal to brake Aghada's heart. From the puck out the same player
was fouled and he put the ball over the bar for the insurance. Try
as we might we could not get the major we wanted .Tony Wall had
the last say when his shot for a goal greased the bar for the final
point of the game. St. Martins were the better team in the second
half and deserved their win. Still a little bit of luck and the
cup would have went our way. Our lads as always tried to the bitter
end but to no avail .This was one mighty game of hurling played
at a fast pace through out. With Stephen O'Keeffe been the best
player over the hour. the ref Michael Harrington (Carrigaline) had
a fine game

Sun 5th Jan 2003 Minor B Hurling League County Final Aghada 2-7
Blackwater Rovers 3-6
Sad end to a great year for the minor hurlers. Losing our second
county final in a row, yet we could have won
Missing Intermediate player Billy Hennessy was a hurdle to many
to over come. Brian Morrissey put over the first point from a dead
ball after five minutes sadly this was the only time we led .The
Blackwater boys replied with 2 points followed by a goal in a ten
minute spell when they over ran Aghada . slowly Aghada came back
into the game thanks to another three frees from Morrissey. just
on the stroke of half time Blackwater added another point to lead
at the short whistle by 1-3 to 0-4
After the brake Blackwater again when further ahead with two more
points from frees
On the 35th minute Alan Morrissey hit Aghada's 1st point from play
Tony Wall followed shortly after. Then an Aghada attack was broken
down and with our backline out of place Blackwater got a soft goal
to put them 5 points clear entering the last quarter. Dave O'Keeffe
made a great run before off loading to Sub Shane Russell who rattled
the net. Blackwater got a seventy yard free which again when all
the way to the Aghada net. Back to five points could our lads come
again indeed they could and with five minutes left Alan Morrissey
hit the net, Tony Wall added a point to leave the minimum between
the sides by alas we could get no closer and on the stroke of full
time Blackwater added a point to give them a two point victory
