Last Saturday our Junior B hurlers captured the division 3 league title
after a great game with Erins Own.Played on a cold dark day in Rostellan
we
showed once again the fine form and commitment that had been show all
year
as we outscored an impressive Erins Own Team. Playing against the wind
in
the first halve we started well and were matching Erins Own score for
score
with John Connolly striking over some impressive points. The breakthrough
came after about 20 mins when we got 2 goals in the space of a couple
of
minutes. The first came from Stephen O Donoghue who pressures the goalkeeper
into a mistake and he finished the ball to the top corner of the net.
A
minute later he turned provider with a great ball for the very sharp Tony
Wall who gave the keeper no chance with a great strike from the 14.The
first
halve finished with John Wall scoring a fine point on the run. Half time
Aghada 2-4 Erins Own 0-6. The second half was a very tight contest with
both
teams trading points John Connolly again the scorer for Aghada. A bad
Injury
to Stephen O Donoghue Led to big brother Paul coming on and with his first
touch he scored a great point. It was nip and tuck from then on until
Derek
Bowler came on and scored a great individual goal in injury time to settle
the contest. Erins Own scored from a penalty with the last puck but it
made
no difference at the end. Veteran Alan Devoy accepted the cup to round
off a
good year for our second string hurlers.

| Aghada 1 - 14 Castlemartyr 1 - 10 Aghada were always in control of the first half but squandered a lot of opportunities and Castlemartyr were always within touching distance. Stephen O Keeffe was a revelation in that period displaying great artistry. Midfielder John Connolly was proving to be deadly accurate from placed balls and corner forward Derek Bowler was a real hand full for the reds defence. Aghada led at half time 7 points to 4. on the resumption Aghada extended their lead with John Walls goal and points from Bowler and Aiden Cotter. Castlemartyr then awoke from their slumber and produced a heroic comeback scoring 1 - 6 in the final 20 minutes but Aghada's greater resolve won the day with Pa Sisk, Cathal O Gorman, Alan Devoy and Willie O Donoghue dominant forces and an inspirational point from the strong running Kieran O Connor sealing a deserved win for the boys in green.
